I have several reprints of Sears & Roebuck catalogs from different years. They are fascinating to look through.

Those houses are all old growth lumber, quality full length hardwoods, giant windows with leaded and hand made artistic glass, and trim work for days. You try to build a house like that today and you’ll drop $400 per sq ft and be installing ancient used stuff.
Today’s construction is mostly junk. Even the higher end stuff unless it’s truly custom and you’re willing to pay dearly.

My time as a train set ended tragically when I derailed due to a GI Joe on the tracks, taking out an Icecream parlor in the process. It was a horrific scene.

I remember when going to Sears and Godchaux’s in BR was a happy trip, not an endangering one.
