Keep in mind that Sears & Roebuck was basically Amazon 100 years before Amazon was even thought of. They had in place the system and infrastructure to be Amazon, but they managed to completely shite the bed.

I used to work in a little town that has a bunch of Sears houses from the late 1800s/early 1900s and they were still rock solid. Those things were built like tanks.

One of my grandmother's liked Sears, the other one loved Montgomery Wards.
It was a win-win situation for me when it came to them taking me back to school shopping!
Had the freshest Lee jeans and Reeboks a kid could have!

Next door neighbor growing up had a sears mail order house from the 1940s. It was a nice old house and well built. When he passed away his son moved the house, not sure where though.

My step-father knew someone that had ordered one of those (not that model though). He said it was pretty quality stuff.

Today you would be hard pressed to get just the roof done for $6k
