Spoke to some state officials today. Strongly urged them to have gas stations in south ms initiate limits on purchases

frick that. I topped off both tanks of my ZT mower before the storm and bought 5 tanks of gas for generator. I ended up not losing electricity so I donated the 5 tanks of gas but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to mow my grass.

A friend uptown just upriver from Audubon Park just got his power back on. He called to check in as we had asked him to. He is fairly close to the river as well. He has water and had just finished eating the somewhat overripe vegetables from his freezer.
In his area, the word is that gasoline is harder to find than anything. He refuses to waste it driving around to find more.

He's heard rumors that some food stores might open tomorrow.

Lafayette is a war zone right now. Most gas stations are completely out of gas and the ones that have it, have lines at the pumps spilling out into the roads at all hours of the day. Starting to hear stories about guns being pulled on people who cut in line with gas cans.

Is anyone starting to get really worried about where this is headed, or is the smart position still to believe things are about to get turned around?

I don’t remember as much of this after Laura, but I probably just didn’t hear about it.

I am definitely mowing my grass with whatever gas I have left over after my power comes back on. I figure it will be awhile before the yard guys are able to get enough gas

Lake Charles has gas. I haven't seen any gas stations run out lately. Although, we are probably a bit far for folks in the eastern part of the state.

I'm with you, I don't know what to think about this. My gut is telling me that social media/rumors/stories are driving a panic and people are all rushing to the pumps at the same time, and this will be over in a few days. But I don't know how fast the stations will be able to restore supply.

Keeping that 36kW generator running or incoming fire. Your choice.

You realize that 36kw isn’t using the same gas you fill up at the pump with? No?

It gets turned around as soon as most people have power. So another 3-4 days.

Being critical of people who don't have power in 100 degree weather is amazingly arrogant.

And, I have power.

Don’t say South of Alexandria, they are essentially out of fuel in their MSA. I can say there is not a lack of fuel available, even with the increased demand. And that’s with 11/14 refineries in the state shutdown. The biggest issues are (a) Colonial Pipeline shutting down. (b) Mississippi River shutdown (mostly reopened now). Due to (a) and (b) above, almost all the fuel has to be delivered by truck. With the only terminals open being Baton Rouge and West, trucks are having to make really long hauls, and dealing with all the congestion in town from traffic lights being out, and a lack of retail stations with power. But more than this, is the lack of drivers. Like the rest of our economy, transporters are having trouble with staffing, add in so many local drivers impacted personally and dealing with that and not coming to work, and there is your issue.

Good news is several terminals have been able to get back on line over the past two days (River Parishes, Kenner and St. Bernard) meaning shorter roundtrips and Shell and Exxon bringing in big generators from Texas to power stations. This will help immensely. Again, there is NOT a supply issue, it’s all about distribution
