Were things just “normal” again after 9/11 or did we see some major changes take place as a result?

The same thing will happen here. Society will not just be opened all at once with huge crowds and people not heeding warnings... it’s gonna be awhile until then, like it or not. It’s gonna be different than it was on say Feb 1, no question. A new normal which hopefully leads to some positive changes

To clarify, when I hear NEVER go back to "normal" I hear that we will be wearing masks forever, staying 6 feet apart forever, never allowing a mass event like sports or festivals again, etc. That is the kind of ridiculous shite I am referring to.

I know that wouldn't happen but I can't believe some of the things that come out of peoples mouths (no pun intended).

That's not going to happen

Define "normal".

I don’t know anyone with half a brain that’s saying this with any seriousness. Will we be dealing with changes for awhile? Sure. But I’ve not seen anyone say we’ll doing these things “forever”.

Some of y’all bitch about Karens but some of y’all are becoming your own version of a Karen with some of this.

Things will get back to normal eventually, but my fear is that we're going to have to shoot at each other for a few years first. Don't think we'll reach that point in my lifetime.

Very true.
And, on a personal level, as one of my friends put it the other day, “a ton of people have let their crazy out” during this. And it’s like Pandora’s box.
I have lost a ton of intellectual respect for a number of people in my life, and I’m not sure they can earn that back.

None of that will happen. None of that will be happening by August for most of the country.

I hope some things don't go back to "normal," such as kids playing outside, a lot of people working from home, hand shakes, and sick people wearing masks.

You mean like 9/11 and all the fricking "security" regulations?

EDIT.... the fact that lefties are comparing this to 9/11 should tell you all you need to know.

It honestly may take a while to get back to normal. Even with the country being reopened soon, the economy will still be fricked in different ways.

People are legitimately terrified of this thing. The constant "stay at home" demandings by all the celebrities, healthcare workers, tv ads has really affected people's psyche and morality. I even saw one person on fb claim that if you get this virus then you have a 9/10 chance of dying. Her proof was that watching the news you don't see any reports of people recovering, unless they are a celebrity.

I fear that even once the CDC removes the restrictions on large gatherings, that many people will refuse to go to the sports games or concerts.

We will go back to normal, but that could possibly take a long time. Alot of people will lose their entire shite and throw a giant temper tantrum when the entire country is reopened but there is still up to 100 deaths/day.

Ummmmm.....TSA, Homeland Security, Patriot Act, and perpetual war are still around 20 years later.
That shite hasn’t gone away.

Expect something like mandatory vaccinations, police using drones, temperatures being taken entering businesses, some other bullshite???

Something societal changing will be coming of this.

Agreed.

Believe a lot of this has to do with being the first “pandemic” with social media.

Agreed.

I recently deactivated my Instagram and Facebook, Twitter, Tik-Tok and all that shite. I wasn't really paranoid about the virus, but I found myself spending an inordinate amount of time on social media. As a by-product, I found myself feeling less nervousness and tension when it comes to the virus and I already don't have cable so I don't watch the MSM channels. Our non-stop 24/7 exposure to the news cycle makes everything feel bigger and worse than it really and truly is.

What is normal anyway? Seems it's a pretty fluid standard. Things that were normal in society 10 years ago aren't anymore. Things change, people change, norms change.

Eh. Stuff like shaking hands, hugging relatives, gathering in large groups, etc don't just change every 10 years.
These politicians and celebrity doctors need to stop telling us what the "new normal" will be.

Wife and I are the same way. We've talked at length during this about simplifying our lives. Cutting back on extracurriculars for the kids, cutting back on social events, spending more time at home and with each other, not eating out so much and preparing meals together, etc.
