Things Family Members Do That Drive You Nuts (Holidays)Posted by Seeker on 11/24/20 at 2:13 pm

I in general love the holidays. I love spending time with family and seeing people that I don't usually get to see (I know COVID). However I also know that there are somethings certain people do that will irk the crap out of me. Like my one aunt that slides her fork between her teeth and make "that sound" every bite. Or the cousin that likes to tell jokes, but they aren't really funny, but we all laugh anyway so he keeps coming up with more. Most of the time I know what to expect and it is worth getting through some of the bad to enjoy the overall good of the holidays.
However one thing that I know is going to happen and it drives me crazy is we have a couple of family members that will usually stay with us (not at the same time, but at different points during Christmas/Thanksgiving breaks). Both are older ladies and widowed. Awesome people, amazingly kind, and great with our kids.
They both always bring their dogs with them. We are dog people, so no issue there. However their dogs constantly bark. I understand that they are in an unfamiliar environment and are likely to bark at anything. The issue is neither owner corrects their dogs. It could be 5:30 in the morning and their dogs will be barking for 15 minutes straight. Doesn't matter if they are inside or outside. They just let them bark. If someone says something to the dogs to stop barking, they take it as a personal insult. Probably not the biggest deal in the world. I love that they will make the time and effort to spend time with our family, but just thinking about being woken up randomly by their dogs makes me cringe.
Anyone else have family members that you know will do something that gets on your nerves during the holidays?

Yep, my MIL insists on being herself during the holidays. Annoys the crap out of me.

I fixed this. I bought a bark collar. You come to my home and your dog acts a fool, it will learn or you will leave.
I used it on my dog and he will not bark now unless there is a bang on the door or a reason for actual suspicion. And then it’s a direct bark and quiet. Will not even respond to other dogs barking.

I hate it when my 13 year old nephew takes from my stash then starts fricking with my classic Grateful Dead vinyl.
My MIL, who couldn't tell the QB from the ref, will no doubt sit next to me and ask a never ending barrage of stupid questions if I'm trying to watch a game.
Which team is that in the blue? Did he catch that? Which team has it now? Who is that? Why are they kicking the ball? Why is is his facemask different? Can they hit like that...seems awful rough? Now what was that flag for? Why isn't he running with it? Why did he stop? Why wasn't that a goal?
I appriciate the effort to make conversation but frick...pick anything else at any other time!!!

This goes for 99% of women.

I'd have to tell them to take the dogs for a walk when they start barking. I'm not dealing with that in my own home.
