Rice cookers. Those old chicken shite green rice cookers last forever.

This. Have one at the camp that my dad says was purchased before I was born. I am 31. The controls were literally taped back in with masking tape. It is just now starting to shite the bed and needing replacement.

Virtually everything made 30 years ago was made better than things today. Maybe not domestic vehicles though.

Man I had an old refrigerator that use to be my parents. They bought that thing a year before I was born (I am 38, this was about 6-8 yrs ago). It went out, but fixable, however; I figured it seen its better days and decided to by a new one. My brother took, fixed it up and put it in his barbeque room. It is still working and he hasn't had a problem with it since he fixed it. On the other hand, ive already had several problems with the refrigerator I replaced it with.

Had a friend who bought a refrigerator when he bought his house, he didn't have a problem with it until the month after the warranty went out. It was an expensive part and the cost between the new part & a new refrigerator made more sense to go ahead & purchase a new refrigerator.

Oh & my brother's brother-in-law.. He has an extra refrigerator that is older than the one my brother got from me & he was telling me one day that if it didn't look all beat down & old he would rather have that one in the house because it cools better than the one inside. But my mom's husband ran his own appliance store for over 30 years, he told me that he didn't make his money from selling lawn mowers, he made it from selling parts to lawn mowers (same thing went for pretty much all other appliances except for TVs... So today, in order for companies to maximize profit, its in their best interest to build a product that isn't best of quality. If they sell you something that last for 35 yrs that rarely needed repairs.. Where is the money in that? It is pretty shitty.

Precisely today's problem. Things are built to last...until the warranty expires. Then it's time to upgrade. I have the mindset that I will spend extra on something so long as either the cost per use is extremely low, or it will be the last of that item I will ever need to buy.

At my house - my old Winchester shot gun

Not at my house - Fire trucks. our company engine is almost 30 years old and the pump is still solid as a rock. Will be a sad day when she's replaced next year.

A crock pot that has it's original ceremic crock. Bought 1976 or so. Still works like a charm. 40 years.

LSD

Or so I've heard.

Eta: music. For the most part, mainstream music nowadays is fricking unlistenable. Especially rock and country.

Most modern appliances and small motors don't run forever because of the BS environmental standards. Which is ironic, because the shitty products just end up in the landfill.

I have an old McClane edger with a Briggs motor that my dad gave me. He got it in '83. It starts on the second or third pull, and takes a bit to warm up. But that thing will cut concrete if you stray too far off your line.

Pulled out a bunch of true 2x4's when I was remodeling my new home. Saved every last one of them.

I have a GE washer/dryer set, paid maybe $600 for the pair, going for nearly a decade. They tolerate my lazy overfilling so I don't have to do a second load. Very basic set, just a few settings, no digital functions or logic boards to worry about. As few points of failure as possible.
