Statistically there is almost no chance of getting murdered or shot outside of a domestic situation in the suburbs (Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, etc).

The only counter to that is that Hoover used to be that way but has started having rising crime, so there has been some spread from B’ham proper. Don’t get me wrong, Hoover is still better than most places around NOLA but the spread of the problem is still present.

True as to Hoover. It made the mistake of allowing a lot of apartment complexes—with predictable results. I’ll say this though. The Hoover PD will solve the crimes and make arrests with the quickness.

I can't put my finger on why, but most of the cities in the south are pretty shittastic. NOLA, BR, Shreveport, Jackson, Birmingham, Mobile, Memphis, St Louis, Mongtomery, etc etc.

The original Gus’s fried chicken is there by the river.

Memphis is the first franchise location. The original was in Mason, in an old shotgun. A guy fried the chicken in two oval black iron pots. The original burned and the family rebuilt. While their chicken is great now, you should have had it then. Best damn fried chicken I’ve ever had. Friday and Saturday nights, people tailgated while waiting to get in, with no guarantee Gus’s wouldn’t sell out.

Memphis is a tough town, indubitably...

But...Memphis BBQ is some of my favorite in the country...

Wouldn’t Jackson, MS be in a race with Memphis?

Yeah…no…not even close to other cities that are the shittiest. Many places that aren’t great at all but Bham is out of the running for “the worst” distinction.
