Short podcast from Texas Monthly. It notes that Louisiana is the only place where almost everyone says it right.
quote:

we’re getting nutty with an exploration into the right and proper way of pronouncing “pecan,” whose abundance here is proof that God does truly love and has blessed Texas. We explore the historic wrangling over the way to name this nut, and tear into those poor misguided Georgians who say it all wrong.

I worked at a really nice restaurant in college and was berated by some new Englanders for saying Puhkahn. I asked chef if PeeCan was actually correct and he brought out his food dictionary to them with pronunciations. We we're both right, but he hated people coming to LA and correcting us.

Yeah mine is similar to yours. I said peh-kahn, but I am sure it has come out puh-kahn as well.

Emeril once said on his cooking show, “Pee-cans are for truck drivers.”

Emeril’s dumbass has never been to south Georgia.

Have any of you been out of Lousiana or Alabama?
