Is a midwife a legit profession?

I can understand some of them. There are certain professions you can't just let anyone do some of those jobs.

But you know the state is going to require a license for anything they possibly can because.. Well, its a revenue stream for them.

But it’s not just this. There’s the

State medical board fee (one for each state you practice in)

DEA registration fee (again, one for each state you practice in)

Board certification fee (multiple of you have more than one board certification).

Then there’s the Louisiana CDS license (whatever the hell that is).

Don't forget the Fed government (DEA)gets some money too w/ the license for writing prescriptions for controlled pharmaceuticals.

Arborist

Of all of them you listed, this is the only one that there is a legitimate argument for. Maybe you don't care, but I don't want any ole jackleg fricking with my trees.

That being said, I don't know what it takes to obtain an Arborist license, so it may still be jacklegs fricking with my trees.

Now do the inspection sticker fee so that our roads can destroy your vehicle and make you fail the inspection sticker...

lot of professional jobs do this to protect their own interests. So people advertising themselves as something, are what they say they are
I tried getting a Real Estate Appraiser's license my sophomore year of college so that I could do an apprenticeship before graduation. A bunch of boomers went to the board that year to complain about all the competition and the license requirements doubled. It's more of a liberal/protectionist tactic that people use because they know they aren't competant enough to make it in business.

Back in the 80s, there was a sudden proliferation of VCR repair shops. Partially because there were tons of VCRs. That was back when TVs were worth repairing, you might have thought that TV repairmen would have picked up a lot of that work. But there were not a ton of TV repair places. The reason was you were required to be licensed as a TV repairman. Louisiana was one of only 2 states that required a license at that time. The other was the Cali.

This is why I always laugh when people say Louisiana is a Republican run state. The structure of our economy is very similar to blue states in regards to regulations. If it were not for the abortion and other moral issues,Louisiana would be a swing state.

Imagine ever uttering the phrase, “I’m a licensed auctioneer.”

Sounded good typing this. I’ll have to use this in public some time soon.

True, but unfortunately Louisiana follows the federal standards so they clamped down at a national level …

And now we have a shortage of appraisers nationwide

Most politicians aren’t married to any set of principles or values and would change political positions on any issue if it meant getting votes. Nowhere is this more apparent than in Louisiana.

So much for ‘right to work’ state.
The company I work for has to pay over $5k a year plus another $750
To a second agency. All they do for this is send new paperwork.
RIP OFF!!

Much of that is vestigial but as another respondent says, most politicians are not either, just kind of pick a party in an effort to get votes. Half of the GOP leadership over 45 used to be democrats because that is what you had to be to win a state wide election. They bought into "the Democrats are the party of the working man, the Republicans are the party of the rich" BS.

Most louisiana voters are of the mindset that "the man is more important than the party". Most decent men I have known who serve in the Louisiana legislature end up quitting after a term or two. It is disheartening when you actually see how the Baton Rouge sausage is made.
