But I just do not understand the current obsession with the past.
It wasn't as great as we all remember. And current day isn't as bad as you want it to be.
Why are so many people actively searching for things to be mad about?
It's what (most) people do when they get old. And the people on this board are getting old.

We are such a lazy culture now. That picture basically spells it out

Love the modern picture. Spot on. Sloppy, fat tattooed mom with slovenly children and a fat, bearded dad wearing a Carhart shirt although he’s never ever done anything remotely Carhart-like in his life.

I do feel for you younger people that didn't get to experience some adulthood pre 9/11

Mr. AI, take this picture of a happy family and change their clothes to dark hoodies and the dog to a pit bull so I can post it on social media and watch the internet spazz out.

Well they aren’t real so there’s really no home to go into

I was an early adopter, and I liked the practice a lot better when i was the only one I knew doing it. Lol.
I guess my family is a mix of the two pics. No tats, I wear a suit about once a month now, a dress shirt with shorts for the occasional Zoom meeting (I usually just turn off the camera), mutts not pits, single income two kids. More outdoor/work garb than the airport sweatpants look.
In spirit, I guess we’re more like the “before” pic, but with a homesteading, non corporate twist.

Their job isn’t to send 4 emails a day, it’s to know what to say in those emails to move value along
Like the old Steinmetz itemized invoice to Ford:
Making chalk mark on generator — $1
Knowing where to make mark — $9,999

I'd like to hear your counter argument for how women entering the workforce after WWI didn't drive up prices to the point that dual income was a requirement to be middle class.

It's not putting women down at all. The blame rests with the world's governments. It's sad that you take pride in being forced to work and take offense to his statement

When this is no longer the case for generations, progress has ended.

Your best days were probably 2020-2024. No wonder why you're so delusional. That must feel terrible.

I had an amazing childhood
I can look back fondly on the past without fetishizing it.

They were not bad years for my family. New job, some amazing trips, new friends, etc.
Your adult life clearly has not turned out as you had imagined. I sincerely hope things get better for you. Truly.

You have to be mentally ill if you think today's society is better than the past. Things can't get any worse for you

Things are pretty great right now, so yes, they could get quite worse.
Here is to hoping that neither mine nor yours gets worse.
