The word “Lame” is now offensive?

I was listening to 92.3 this morning. They do a little segment called, “I’m so lame, I ...!”
People call in and basically tell their geeky stories.
Some lady called in this morning and said they need to stop saying lame, because it’s offensive to handicapped people. She said it is offensive as retarded.
They kind of laughed at her and she would get even more mad. They basically said theyre not going to stop using it.
