Get one of those bug whackers you hang outside. That really does help if you are near it. If you are sitting outside having a cold one, its good for that.
Light draws insects/bugs. Blacklight or UV light attract even more bugs, so much so that the UV lights from those bug zappers are sought after and used to attract insects in large number to gauge what is in an area. Hang up a white sheet and turn on one of those lights and all types of insects will flock to it — not just the ones in the immediate vicinity of your property, but from a ways away. This practice is called "black lighting" and is used as a legitimate research method.
Therefore, when you hang up and turn on one of those bug zappers you are attracting a boatload of insects to your area that otherwise would not have been near you without the light. Those zappers attract and kill a many times more other insects than they do mosquitoes. It has been researched and proven many times that they aren't all that great at killing mosquitoes, but they are remarkable at killing everything else.

If it didn’t itch I would let them have all they want. I’m a mosquito magnet. I get torn up every time I step out of the house. My wife is completely ignored by them.

I'm the same way. They mostly ignore me. I may get bit a few times a year, but even then it itches for a couple minutes and is gone. My sister is the complete opposite. She attracts them and is allergic, but not as bad as when she was younger. Back then she would swell up in welts wherever she was bit.

My wife is half Mexican, the Mayan variety from the Yucatan. I think her people and mosquitoes came to some jungle agreement many centuries ago. It’s my working theory.

No clue, but mosquitos target certain people based on multiple factors.
My wife and kids can be outside all afternoon and evening with maybe a bite or two.
The mosquitoes see me as a buffet. I can’t stand it.

Buckets helped a ton at my house in the TX hill country. They were thick when I first moved in to that house. A couple of foggers, and cleaning the buckets regularly almost completely eradicated them. Only drawback was every now and then the dogs got into the buckets and they'd get sick.
I put these on top of my buckets, they are for hydroponics but they fit 5 gallon buckets and help stop evaporation but allow the mosquitos in LINK
the dunks are cheap and you only need a small piece per 5 gallon buckets

Not sure if true. If you live in a low area it's worse. In the old days they'd build houses on hills to help. Maybe it's the breeze or the heat. Not sure if that helps you. Use a fan as someone said. Deet and/or picaridin.

I was told it was the highest point in the area. Well drained and not swampy at all.
Just wondering if there's some surefire product to keep them away. I've got some fans. The back patio is area is just too nice not to use it

Bifen 25 percent concentrate. Put it in a hose sprayer and spray your yard and the outside of your house a few times every year, starting when it warms up.
A gallon will last year two or three years.
1 gallon 25 percent Bifenthrin
By comparison, the stuff you get at Home Depot is usually about 1 percent. The "concentrate" that Home Depot sells is only 7 percent.
The commercial mosquito and termite abatement companies use bifen .

I'm lucky enough to have a colony of barn swallows that show up every spring and set up some nests. There is a definite difference in when they are there and when they leave later in the summer.
