I do not. Old Marines are stupid. Spiro Agnew missed his chance.

The video stated that there will be 2-3 years of sea trials before it will be heading out with a Carrier strike group. So around 2020.

I was on the JFK from 78-81. It was the last conventional carrier. We hit 47 knots one time, I know this as I worked in the we office and we had a speed indicator. Word was top speed was 50+ knots. That big ship could fly.

And lest we never forget when Norfolk had all 5 carriers in port at one time. Parking was atrocious and it took half a day just to get to work...

It was awful. I used to love when the carriers went out to sea for that exact reason. It would legitimately take me 45 minutes to get from the 64/264 intersection to the gates off of 564 when the carriers were in port.

Also...

In a time of war, the ship can carry 508 officers and 3,789 enlisted crew members for a total of 4,297 humans living on the CVN-78.

This would make for some ridiculously long chow lines.

The Ford’s kitchen and eating spaces have been redesigned on the carrier, which the shipyard said provides shorter waits at chow time for sailors. ADVERTISEMENT

The living quarters on the Ford are an improvement over the Nimitz-class carriers, the yard and Navy said. Each living unit will sleep a maximum of 86 sailors, down from the 200 sailors on the Nimitz-class berthing areas. Sailors will also have access to separate recreation areas, multiple gymnasiums and improved air conditioning.

These are from the other article at the bottom.

When I was based there and the carriers were in port, it was usually quicker for me to ride my bicycle to work than drive.

On Dec. 6, 1941 you could have made that same infographic using battleships. Every technology is eventually obsolete. Sometimes it becomes obsolete overnight.

This class of ship has not seen high intensity combat in over 70 years. There are threats such as hypersonic cruise missiles and ultraquiet submarines out there. We dont know how carriers would fare against them. Lose one and the others have to be kept in port or far out to sea because they're too costly in money and lives to put at risk.

Well, the next morning they gave us their best shot. We took it, then gave it right back to them with a crippled fleet. We ended up on the right side of that conflict, so knowing that I don't think any nation would directly attack our current line up.

so we would just hide our toys because one would go down? in the crisis of war I don't think the US would worry about how much a ship costs. If they are needed they will be used.

I think what he meant was to keep them away til they figure out how and why the first one got sunk, so the others don't go down also

You'd think , or hope the government knows the weak spots and vulnerable points through testing during the engineering process. Anyhow, that's one bad mofo.
