I don’t mind tipping, but I think it is ridiculous, and insulting that they expect a tip (extra money for providing a good service) before they actually do any work

Not sure why restaurants can’t factor the costs of service into the price of food and pay workers accordingly. Seems like every industry here and every restaurants outside the US has gotten this down except our restaurant industry.

Imagine eating breakfast sandwiches instead of egg whites, English muffin and some turkey bacon

I’ll hit no tip and whip that screen back around like I’m playing a reverse card in UNO
I’ll hit .05 just so the total is changed.

The only thing I’m taking from this thread I’d that someone paid $7.50 for a breakfast sandwich.

If so, people would go to their competition who doesn't and whine about the tips.

Roger, I’m taking about across the board culture wise. The other day I bought a bunch of sod pieces. The guy load it up in my car in the heat. So why do we expect to tip one group and not another group? Seems like loading sod is harder then carrying a plate of food.

Pay cash for food. You don’t have to tip.
But I think the real scam is that the business most likely isn’t dispersing all the tips. Guaranteed they are taking half at least.

True, but the pay in restaurants is usually below min wage.
You would have to change the entire model to decrease competitive advantage.
One of the issues with restaurants is the owners would most likely keep everything above the margins if tips are rolled into pricing.

I was at a little crawfish festival and bought a beer. When the tip screen popped up the worker said.... don't worry about that. It doesn't even go to us. It's all a scam for credit cards to make more.

FYI. There is almost always a custom tip button so you can put in whatever you want as a tip.

If you feel like you HAVE to tip the person. Give them cash. Who knows where the credit card money goes?

1. Don't eat fast food.
2. Don't tip for fast food.
3. Never, ever, should you tip for the total. Why tip
included tax?

I shared an entree last week. Got a $30 "shared entree fee" and 18% auto-gratuity added. And if you order takeout, you get 18% auto-gratuity added. Sheesh.

I enter 5 or 10% and am on my way. Really isn’t hard. But 90% of the time I pay in cash and leave less than that. It’s just coffee or a sandwich, not Jubans.

The point is that it's sleezy to expect/program a register to give a $3.75 tip on a $15 order and a $5 tip on a $7.50 order.
Sleazy? You know what’s sleazy? The fact that just because I was born in the 90s I’m expected to live hand to mouth all my life. I’d gladly work in a factory and pay 10k for a house but you boomers voted for nafta so now I can’t
It’s time to end millenial crow laws

have you never checked into a hotel using valet or luggage service?
The dude at that service station fixing your flat, you don't tip?
The girl cutting your hair, no tip?
Pete don't be so cheap, you made a fortune cheating baseball fans out of fair games.

Is that generally true with these counter serve people? I wouldn’t think so or think that’s even legal.
