I don't these automatic denigrations of teachers. I have never once heard a teacher 'whine' about being 'overworked and underpaid.'

I have a heard teachers defend themselves against allegations that they have a 'soft job' and 'get the whole summer off.'

I spent 35 years as an aerospace engineer. You wouldn't believe the amount of unsolicited whining about being underpaid I heard. There were constant complaints about being overworked (that part was true.)

I spent the last 12 years of my working life as a high school math teacher. I never once heard a teacher whine about 'being underpaid.' I did hear about - and join in on the frustrations of being overworked. There was "shop-talk' and 'black humor' discussion amongst ourselves about the lousy conditions, but those were primarily about the the incompetent parentage of our students and the inability of our administration from protecting us from their complaints.

I suspect most teachers react the same as I do - when I hear some idiot come out on an anonymous message board with their canned screed denigrating teachers as 'being paid to much for the job they do" or 'having a soft job that doesn't deserve much pay' I feel compelled to lend some truth and first hand experience to the discussion.

And you misguided idiots interpret THAT as 'whining about being overworked and underpaid.' You are much more comfortable with your ignorant sniping from the sidelines.

But carry on - whatever floats you boat or makes you feel better about yourselves.
