I would not want to deal with 30 insolent, disobedient, entitled kids for 8 hours a day even if I did get 2 months off. It almost makes going back worse.

Most teachers that I know hate their jobs because the kids are horrible. Fact.

How about if we give teachers a break and let them vent? Who cares? As long as they show up for work, I don't care if they don't want to go back. I wouldn't either. Most public schools are disaster zones anyway.

Absolutely cover it. If you see other teachers exposing ink after a few days, I wouldn't hesitate to do the same.
It's a rule that tattoos must be covered. So, I will wear a long sleeve button down on EVERY day of the school year.

I was asking should I cover the tattoo for teacher orientation before school starts?

Cheers, 88. I'm a first year teacher, too.. And I was wondering what to wear to orientation as well. Seems it's just handbooks and insurance, I probably won't wear jeans but not dressy either.

If the school makes you cover your Tats then cover them. If not don't be worried about covering them. Kids will think your cool if you have them. (They are easily impressed)

My answer stands. You can't take back a first impression. Don't rock the boat, don't show up on the first day bucking the system. You want to get a feel for things and find exactly how much rope you have before you get wild with things.

I've read that harry Wong before as well. It's all awesome in theory but once you are in that classroom all that goes out the window. All the awesome lesson plans and curriculum building are worthless. If the kid likes you then you can teach him, if they don't like you or cant relate to you then you are screwed.

Easy to tell which posters have something to contribute to any given topic.

I feel the same. Would never ever want to deal with kids all day long. I don't care if they got 4 months a year off - I would not want that crappy job.

I agree. It can't be house party in your classroom but you will find out that you are going to run the room in a way that fits your personality. If you keep doing what you read about in books instead of what comes natural to you then it will be a major struggle.

Don't lie to them. That's no way to start a teacher-student relationship. Cides, it's a small world. One of them will out you.

Yes, lie. Worst thing you can of is tell a bunch of public school 9th graders that this is your first year teaching.
