It is proven that a people have to WANT to live free to have that opportunity.

That means from time to time in history they have to prove this belief by more than just words, if not then they will not be free long.

Free loving Americans should take note.

The next time the government tells you they just have to, got to, need to, seriously guys it's us against them, invade another sovereign nation, maybe, just maybe, you'll remember the cluster of lies that went into creating the public desire for invading Korea, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Might even cause one to pause on the current ramp up in Cold War rhetoric towards China and Russia.

You can thank the Bushes for this shite. We had the Taliban crushed within a year of hitting Afghanistan. We should have handed the keys to the Northern Alliance right then and there. But Bush’s people insisted on trying to turn the place into an American style state. That was NEVER going to happen. They need a brutal ruler. So now 20 years of blood and treasure is down the drain for nothing.

The Soviets tried a firepower approach. They even carpet bombed the Panjshi Valley.

Even that didn’t work.

Maybe if we cut off the Saudis, maybe if we stomped on Pakistan. But Pakistan is a nuclear power with a million man army.

So are we willing to fight them? If that’s what it takes. And what does that have to do with 9/11? It is mission creep. And is it a reasonable use of American resources? And is it worth the risk?

This was a war we could never win. And that’s partly because of the external factors, but above all else, this a pre modern tribal society. It was never going to become a western style nation state.

How quickly does the media turn from giving Biden credit for leaving Afghanistan to blaming this on Trump since it was actually Trump’s idea in 2020.

They couldn’t have ruled over the Pashtuns.

You’d need to partition the state if you did that. And the Northern Alliance probably would have broken apart, as everyone struggled for power.

Let this be a hard lesson to neocons.

You cannot give people freedom, security and stability. Those are things that they have to WANT and EARN for themselves.

The Afghan people clearly don't want those things that make western civilization great, and thus we have no business spending our blood and treasure for nothing.

It was and still is remarkably cruel we had to go through 20 years of this hell on Earth for this lesson to finally be driven home.

Essentially they kicked the old Soviet Red Army’s azz, and now thumbing their nose at the combined US, NATO, and assorted remainders. Glad they are content to stay put inside Afganistan’s boundaries. Of course, inviting them here would solve the problem of the ProgLeft Bidenite infestation.

We defeated the Soviets without firing a shot...

We won two wars in Iraq and an undeclared war against Yugoslavia. We toppled Panama and Grenada...

Poor Boomer is all butthurt no one wants to continue throwing money and lives at a country that has no stomach to fight for themselves

“All human beings want is freedom “- circa 2004- lol. THE great moral deceit and delusion of not only the Neocons, but if we are being truthful, also the classic Conservatives of that time over at National Review and elsewhere.

People could give a frick about freedom. If anything they loathe it because it requires them to think and make room for other human beings.

Well, you can, but it will take generations of hand holding and training, much like dogs were domesticated. It would take 100+ years. They've been fighting forever; they will never stop on their own.

I'm as GOP as they get, but when GWB went after WMD's I knew he was being played, what foolery. For once I agreed with Sean Penn.

Look at who they are, primitive 10th century sheep herders following the most violent make believe religion in the world. We should have let the Soviets nuke them.

Daddy Bush 41 is the last American President to win a war, Desert Storm.

You know why that is?

Because he actually stuck to the parameters of the mission, accomplished what he set out to do, didn't mess around with any nation building nonsense and had the good sense to leave Saddam alone in Iraq because he concluded that was not necessary and would do more harm than good.

Damn shame his moron of a son didn't listen to daddy.

Hell, before he saw those dollar signs from Halliburton and then did an about face, even Dick Cheney is on record saying that 41 made the right call at the time.

This. We cannot forcibly control their destiny forever. At some point they have to be allowed to self determine. If this is the way they choose to go, it's the way they choose to go.

I think the US Military needs a second chance at nation building given our recent track record. We need a place that will be easy to conquer and where the local residents will be happy for our arrival so I propose we nation build in the Congo next so we can have a win.

Why should American men die for the middle class of Afghanistan when they won’t send their own sons to fight the Taliban.

Apparently, we left them a bunch of weapons and equipment but couldn’t impart courage.

Cowards get what they deserve.
