ust scanned the article really quick. I presume your buddy was killed in a robbery while attempting to buy drugs and the kid who killed him only got 15 years?
No innocent victims

Were you addicted to it or something?

I had a friend bad off on it. He decided to quit cold Turkey and it gave him seizures which turned to other problems. Xanax is for sure worse than most expect. It's cousin Valium isn't that bad though.

While I get what you are saying, a fault many people have is going by whatever the doctor tells them.
In the 90s the medical world made it their goal to keep the patient comfortable. If they had the slightest amount of pain they were prescribing pain meds and if someone had surgery, for example, if the doctor gave them a month's perception for strong pain meds, a lot of people would finish the prescription. Although it probably said on the bottle "take as needed", if the doctor gives them x amount, there are people who believe they have to take that amount. In the mean time they are becoming addicted.
The excuse they use today is that they didn't realize these pain meds are as addictive as they are.
When I was 10 years old, which was in the late 80s, I had to have back surgery. At the time you had to stay in the hospital 4-6 weeks for this surgery (the doctor ended up releasing me after 2 weeks), but I remember two days after surgery I was told that I had been receiving morphine, but it is addictive and don't like to give it out for a long period of time.
So when I read that doctors claimed they didn't realize how addictive all of these pain meds were, I thought it was complete bullshite because of my experience (but thats the only information I have so it could be a lot more to it).
But my point is, Pharmaceuticals have one goal.. To push their product. I think they should hold most of the responsibility.

I took a xanax a few times. It just made me fall aslee
My wife takes it for severe anxiety. It's the only thing that helps. It's gotten nearly as regulated as opiods, and a lot of doctors won't even prescribe them now. Her current Dr. is about to retire and she's having a heck of a time finding someone else willing to go through all the crap. As usual, the legitimate patients are the ones who suffer. Some slapdick buying them for recreation can still find them on the street.

Damn now that is worth a read. I was just very unproductive at work for 30 min

To be fair, the legitimate patients can also find them on the streets just as the Rec user does.

Did ya ever sell your house?

Just read that article for the first time. Boy, that brought back some memories of "Da Parish". Those were the times, good and bad. Family loaded out their minds at the family functions stumbling around or passed out, pills being passed out and traded like candy, cops showing up at the house to sell my cousins pills they got off the streets, and all the other wild $h!t that used to take place. Glad I made it out alive and clean, wish some of my family and friends could have as well. I'll be tuned in for the premiere next month!

Is it only if you keep it in your system all the time? I have a buddy who just takes it at night sometimes. I'm asking because I've thought about talking to my doctor and doing the same. I get bad anxiety at night on occasion.

I try to not take xanax much because I don't want to use at as a crutch, but as someone with general anxiety, it REALLY helps me out sometimes.

Indica. Look it up. F...Xanax

Even an indica strain doesn't help my anxiety like .25 mgs of xanax does. I rarely will ever take more than that.

I agree the doctors knew it was bullshite. Same for companies.
But, I still think personal responsibility is #1 cause.
I worked in Huntington WV / Ashland KY area for a period.
One of worst if not worst opioid/heroin area in country. Incredible poverty, desperation. Just a depressing arse place.
They obsessively blamed "Detroit Drug dealers" for their plight.
As if there was a meeting in Detroit and drug dealers decided to target area.
Fact is lots of drug demand there. Cheap guns. Trade developed between those areas. There are counties adjacent Detroit with 1/15 opioid rate as Huntington WV.
The folks in that area were just so downtrodden. I think they'll do anything to escape their economic situation.
Alcohol, drugs, etc. If it weren't opioids, it'd be something else.

Thank you for linking that article, I'll never forget it.
Our parents and grandparents had World War 2. We have the drug epidemics. Our war will never end and the body count will far exceed that of WW 2.
