Some of you may remember this post I made a couple years back.

Justice for Danny

The story was a massive article in the Times Picayune ( link to article).

The writer of the story worked with a production company to create a documentary and shopped it around to networks to air it. Netflix picked it up. The 4-part series will premiere on Feb 5th and the trailer will be released on Jan 22.

Netflix: "The Pharmacist"

Extremely happy this story will reach millions and help raise more awareness to the opiod crisis in this country.

Just scanned the article really quick. I presume your buddy was killed in a robbery while attempting to buy drugs and the kid who killed him only got 15 years?

Close. The theory is that he was killed in retaliation from a couple white kids from St. Bernard going into the 9th ward and ripping off some dealers at gunpoint. My friend was shot in the head in his truck. No money, wallet or anything in the truck was taken.

But the true inspiration for the article was his dad's fight to make a difference as a pharmacist noticing an uptick on opiod prescriptions in the early 2000's.

Damn. That’s rough. Did he have any links to the kids that ripped off the dealers or they just got retribution against the next white boy that came through?

ETA: hats off to the dad for his work in the opioid crisis. I think many doctors especially in the area are taking addiction much more serious

Pretty much this. I knew one of the kids personally. Went to middle school with him. I don't think my friend knew any of them.

Amazing I remember this crisis well.
The trinity. Pre-printed prescriptions for vidcon, xanax and some. I went with a friend one time top a discount pharmacy in Elmwood that had a dozen pill counting stations so junkies could count their pills before leaving.
I remember seeing a local Kenner pharmacist lose everything behind Roxie's.
I remember grenades or 80mg OC.

I had only ever gotten one prescription. From a friend who worked in a clinic on Veterans. It was pre printed and forged. But some got 4-5 of these a day. I used to like Soma and xanax but pain killers make me itch so I don't like them.
I haven't seen a Xanbar in 15 years, not even sure if a thing.

Im glad that Cleggett bitch is half paralyzed and suffers.

Should tie a cinder block to her and put her in the lake.

Read the article. The dad is an animal. Fate put him on a trail that saved lives.

Lots of blame to go around with opioid issues.

Users(nobody forced pills down throat)

Drs (they know damn well what's up).

Pharmacist (see above)

Drug company (should notice odd purchase patterns)

I really feel Purdue pharma and ther Sackler family should be held financially culpable for the epidemic.

Xanbars Are still a thing And still way over coperscribed with opioids.
Still killing over 60000 people a year

They are everywhere. You need to have a serious condition or are coming out of surgery to get them. Even then most doctors are wary. Many are afraid of getting sued.

What is a Xanbar?

I took a xanax a few times. It just made me fall asleep.

Even knowing about the opioid crisis, that story is gripping to read. Turned people into drug addicted zombies basically.

2mg of xanax, a "bar" shaped pill with four sections instead of the typical egg shaped 1, .5 or .25 xanax.

That looks like it would knock you out.

Never understood people being addicted to xanax. It didn't make me feel any different. Just fell asleep after 30 min.

Depends on your physiology I guess.
Usually people broke them into quarters and insulfated them.

I agree some culpability.
But, the whole system needs changing.

I will say that pharma marketing needs to be better regulated and controlled.
