Here is an article in BR Business Report from 2017 that basically demonstrates regardless of rankings overall we pay about the same in taxes as our neighbors to the west.

Isn’t Louisiana ranked in the 20s for tax burden?

Yea that’s pretty fricking bad.

our low income tax and property tax make up for it

I’ll never understand the retards who post here that have been brainwashed to think we have low property taxes. I just got back from visiting family who live in the seattle area. He was complaining about how astronomical his property taxes were. I asked how much he was paying in property tax on his ~1.5M home and he said it was around 7k a year. That would be about 17k a year in Jefferson Parish.

we still basically pay overall relatively the same amount of taxes as Texas, ranked 7th.

Please tell me you realize that this is a HORRIBLE deal for Louisiana’s residents, right?

The Louisiana state sales tax rate has changed at least 4 times, there have been two landmark federal income tax bills that are the starting point of state income tax, which Louisiana has subsequently eliminated. The goods and services subject to sales tax in Louisiana was GREATLY expanded.

Texas has cut property taxes at least twice since 2017, the increased the franchise tax threshold by over a million dollars, and allowed a full COGS deduction based on your federal return, which is worth tens of thousands in franchise tax to some companies.

Just bonus depreciation would suffice for making you look like a fool, but there’s too much other low hanging fruit.

Our taxes for sure suck. But we aren't the worst.

And you have to remember, the citizens of this state were against lowering the max they can tax income.

So the voters keep voting for more taxes.

Somebody has to pay for all the Medicaid and welfare users in New Orleans (except uptown and lakeview) and Northern BR.

I'd love to blame just those two areas/groups, but a lot of whitey on welfare in Louisiana too. It's a welfare state. Terrible.

I pay like $12k+ a year in property taxes alone and that’s not even considered that bad around here. It fricking sucks.
