The solution to allow restaurants to stay open

Instead of mandating take out only, why not mandate restaurants go to “reservation only at 50% capacity” so people can be seated at a distance?
This allows most restaurants to get by and the workers and waiters to keep their jobs while practicing social distancing

All of the restaurants where I live are using their staff to deliver food when they usually do not deliver.
It's actually pretty awesome. Sure, they are adding a delivery fee to the bill but that is understandable

I was discussing this with friends this weekend, let restaurants provide in service at around 50% capacity, and have servers wash and sanitize hands between stopping at tables.
Seems a bit painful, but doable.
We are trying to eat out some to provide income, but like many people, we aren't going out as much.

A lot of ours are doing the same. They are also selling booze to go at pick up and curbside. Which is cool.

People wont' even take advantage of that. One restaurant here is still open and guess what? No one is going out to eat as they are so freaked.

Probably not viable for the hot zones like NO, but in areas where there are fewer cases, it makes sense.

This had been the policy in Knoxville until a day or so ago when the governor limited the state to to-go service only.
I picked up from a local brewpub last Thursday and there were a few tables occupied. ETA: Nowhere close to 50% though.

Because it makes too much damn sense! Florida was like that for a week or 2, and it wasn't enough! Not only did they do 50% capacity but they did 6ft apart, but many of them moved tables outside and around so that people were further apart.
But hey, that common sense stuff is just not common enough.

It would be best to shut this state down completely for 2 weeks. Our to go and delivery is not enough to keep us going and I am one of the busiest restaurants in town. Let's bite the bullet instead of having crawfish boils and posting how many michelob ultras we drank

Difficulty to enforce and people/restaurants weren't observing the restrictions when they tried that for a few days.

I feel like youd need some type of insurance policy to do this. Not that it really matters I guess the driver can use his personal

That was the direction being followed in my area for the first week or so but they shut that down and mandated only takeout/delivery.

50% capacity was the rule in Tennesssee for a while before we went all out shutdown.
I agree with you. I think all businesses, starting on April 1st, should be allowed be open at 50% capacity.
All "vulnerable" members of the population should remain in isolation at their homes.
