Fallon Childress, a single mother of two, is still looking for one of those jobs. Before the pandemic struck, she managed a Fuddruckers at Harrah’s in Bossier City, earning $13.75 an hour

quote:

The 36-year-old applied to half a dozen jobs a week and said she’s been hired plenty of times – but so far, no one has offered her more than 15 hours of work a week. She said a local Chipotle recently hired her after a brief group interview but could only offer her eight hours of work a week. Hobby Lobby gave her 10 hours a week.

quote:

“That’s a waste of my time,” Childress said. “I would literally have to find five or six jobs and get them to work around each other’s schedules to make a living.”

quote:

Melody Rome, who lost her job cleaning homes at the start of the pandemic, said the idea that the enhanced benefits are keeping people from working is “a load of B.S.” The 52-year-old from Port Allen said she submits anywhere from 10 to 20 job applications a day, but rarely hears back. At this point, she said she’ll take any job she’s offered.

From local restaurants to large law firms, signing bonuses are everywhere around here. Pretty much every industry is desperate.

I just don't believe any of that.

Can’t stay on unemployment forever just because you can’t find a job that you like. There are more job openings than applicants right now in Louisiana.

This should be fun for the internet to disprove. Send her all the help wanted listings in her area.

I bet if they gave UBI to people who were employed, they would all find jobs.

The Soy Boy who wrote this article has probably never had a real job and has never drank a beer that isn't an IPA. He can go frick himself.

SO bought a new house in January
Found someone to come in & do cleaning
2 ladies, early 30’s
One worked for engineering firm, don’t remember what other did but educated
They both got laid off when Covid hit & decided to start a new business

They had already hired 3 or 4 additional employees & were booked solid

I don’t believe anyone who says they haven’t been able to find work
She could go to a temp agency & find a full time position answering phones

Total BS. Last night I'm in the drive through at Canes, "Help wanted" signs everywhere, but two dudes begging on the sidewalk out front.

fricken a they will literally give you money every hour you are there, all you have to do is hand people pieces of fried chicken and have a few for free yourself.

Typical.

Half the nation believes they are entitled to a life without actively participating.

The company I work for has been trying to fill a position for the past 3 months. In the entire time we got 2 resumes when usually we could fill the spot pretty quickly.

When they tried to call in the 2 applicants they flaked out. Probably only did it to prove to unemployment they were trying. (not sure why they bothered I thought they weren't checking that right now)

HR now lowered the experience required to no experience with training on site and still same story.

Right? I worked all the way through this nonsense, was getting reduced hours and making less than someone staying home soaking up the fed and state unemployment.

How about a little extra to the people who kept the world running?

Of us shouldn’t have to pay for.
