Eastern got Franked and Bushed, and the stranded people were collateral damage

I drove from Lafayette to New Orleans to take a Delta flight and it got cancelled. The only other direct option that day was Spirit.

Like I said. Up, down, no problem.

Indeed. We NEED Spirit and Frontier.

What you're telling me essentially is that by these airlines going out of business, my chances of getting punched in the face at a gate check has increased dramatically. And I'm gonna be honest - I don't need that in my life. I already have enough bullshite to put up with.

A lot of stories like this after 9/11 when civilian aircraft were grounded.

I think that was on quite a bit larger scale than an airline filing bankruptcy

Thank God Biden didn't allow the merger with Jet Blue.

Now JB can buy up their routes and aircraft for pennies on the dollar.

Never had a problem with the airline. Just the people using it

The Spirit airlines company will still be a thing but just bought out and become a subsidiary for another larger airline so that the routes stay open and the planes are being put to use.

And isn't Spirit supposedly no cheaper than most other airlines once you add in all the nickel and diming they do for bags and other things?

Mainstream airlines charge more then tell you all the wonderful things that that price includes (wifi, etc) that either dont work or I dont use anyway
honestly when you factor in the add ons the average person gets hit with on spirit, the basic economy fares from legacy airlines are pretty cost competitive and are a big reason why the ultra low cost model is in trouble right now

I can't stand Spirit but that near Daily to Cancun direct from msy for $200 was a steal. So many times I would just do a 3 day weekend in Mexico.

If you don't check bags, pack everything in a back pack suit case. Bring your own drink and snacks it's fine.
Yeah there are some ghetto people on board and the attendants are rough and they spend 15 minutes trying to push their credit card. But just put your headphones on. And watch your downloaded videos on your phone because they don't have in flight entertainment.

People hate on spirit but they served a niche: cheapest possible way to get somewhere reasonably fast. However, the sacrifice was comfort, reliability, and being constantly nickel and dimed for everything (they charge for WATER on their flights).

I had a lot of bad experiences with Spirit delaying or cancelling flights, frequently stranding me at layovers for days. However, when I couldn’t afford anything more, they got me where I needed to go…eventually.

the legacy airlines secretly love having fly by nights like that around, they really aren't competition but they try to use them as an example of why they can't pay employees more when negotiating new work agreements

Not sure on that, all I brought was a small carry on. Round trip from Nola to Austin was around $150 if I remember right.

I'm actually sorry to hear it, got some good prices and never had issues when I flew Spirit. Guess I'm white trash.
