I live in San Diego and can't imagine coming back to BR. Weather is great, access to beach, ocean, fishing albeit not the same fishing in La. Food is above average, solid LSU alum association. I'm 2 hours from shitty ski slopes 7 from decent ones. I have mountains in my back yard, great hiking and camping in every direction. The taxes do suck, but for me it worth the cost.

Really? There's both the asshats right there.

The taxes are high. Trust me I just got my w-2 and I got bent over on taxes. It's worth paying the higher taxes when you realize how amazingly beautiful the Bay Area is. In any given day I can go to the coast, Tahoe, Yosemite, and one of the greatest cities in the world. I'll pay a higher tax to live in an area where people all over the world save up to spend a week.
If I worked for somebody, I'd consider it. As an entrepeneur (not of the tech variety, either), the idea of starting a business in California is daunting and expensive.

Louisiana is a shithole. Trust me on that.
Nah. Some of you people are just miserable.

Cali is beyond beautiful but that state costs too much to live in/shite laws.

I'm kind of scared to read through this thread

Given your name just wait a few years and start your Business.

If I could bring my guns there and live in that beautiful countryside in the mountains, I could then maybe enjoy it.

Everyone always says that it costs more to live here. The thing that most people don't realize is that you also make more money here than you would elsewhere. This may not be true for all occupations but for most it is true.

I am a farmer.
I would have to seriously downsize my acreage to afford to do anything, even something relatively cheaper north of San Francisco.

I personally think that California is a wonderful state. It's a shame that Californian's politics are destroying the place for average hard working people. It seems to me that LA and san Francisco's ultra liberal population, which is very out of touch with reality, has over powered the rest of the state.
Florida is better than California. We protect people's freedoms and California works hard to restrict them. We also have far better looking women.

Or you can just go to Miami and have no income tax. (Do have corp income tax... If that applies to you.)

Your two reps in the minority house that can't get anything done? Hello Obamacare. But hey, you have to pass it to figure out what's in there. As they screw our country since they know better.
You do know that's the Obamacare signing right? It's an iconic photo.

California has the right of referendum, technically, that is more freedom than most states.
Now, it also allows for some dumb shite to go through, but vote with your feet and move to a comparable county/municipality.

Negotiable, and from experience, both have very vapid women, so that is negotiable as well.

California is cool. Been there and enjoyed it, and definitely will go back. Comparing the two states (LA/CA) is kind of dumb to me though. I like to fish, hunt, play music, and surf. The quality of the former three is perfect for me in LA, and I'm reasonably close to decent surf breaks during the winter time. I also like guns and women. Californians seem to dislike gun and, well, you know.
As far as beauty goes - apples and oranges. California is a gorgeous place. Big Sur is incredible. That being said, I think LA cypress swamp shits on all of that. But that's just me.
In all seriousness though - California is cool, but San Francisco is the most God-forsaken city on the face of this planet. If a nuclear bomb dropped on that town and Will Smith simultaneously wiped every human being's mind with a Men in Black mind-eraser device to remove all memory of SF, I would rejoice. San Francisco is home to hands down the WORST people I have ever met in my life...including Parisians. Rest of CA - you guys are alright.
I really can't explain it any better than this:

Living where you love to live is extremely important IMO. I'd rather live in an expensive paradise than a cheap shithole.

California is a very nice state. The people who hate california, many of whom have never been there, think that all the terrible things you hear on tv about california politics rule your daily life there.
Some things that are good about the state
-beaches and surfing
-like 7 or 8 national parks including yosemite,, sequoia np, redwood, death valley
-world class skiing at lake tahoe and other places
-san francisco, a badass, fully functioning city
-wine country (napa, sonoma, etc)
-agriculture
-active oil and gas business
-Great weather
What you hear on fox news and from the outspoken hollywood few is not california. They have way more industry there than you think. The last time I visited I saw more pickup trucks than lafayette. The oil and gas and agriculture businesses are huge..in the san joaquin valley there are oil wells and crops everywhere, so many that there is actually a smog problem. It's not just a bunch of hippies smoking pot in a circle like all the irrational haters think.

I have live in the San Francisco Bay Area for 6 years and I think Louisiana is a better place to live. Houses are just way too expensive. People aren't as down to earth and way too stressed out. It's location is awesome. The women in SoCal are much better than NorCal. The opportunities are much better here which is the reason I'm staying

You might have better looking Puerto Rican or Cuban women in Flo-Rida but nobody wants to deal with that shite
