Just a heads up to you baws that get mad you have to pay sales tax on online purchases. The Supreme Court just overturned Quill which allows online retailers to avoid sales tax. Now most states will require online retailers that do over 100 transactions or 250k in sales to collect and remit sales tax.

Say goodbye to not paying sales tax baws.

Government is going to find a way to rob us at all turns.

Scruffy is not surprised.

It wasn't fair to local businesses anyway. Either all have to collect or none. That was just stupid.

This will hurt online and help brick-and-mortar. I hate the shitty local shops. Online is 1000x better.

This has more to do with the size of a business than the kind in my opinion. Large businesses typically can afford to report tax, but a small online retailer is going to have a tough time. Collecting and remitting sales tax is adminstrively burdensome and expensive, and some states thresholds are as low as 100 transactions a year.

This should be a boon for small time ebayers right? Person to person shouldn't be subject to sales tax right?

If they sell over a certain dollar amount or have a certain number of transactions, then yes, they would be subject to collecting sales tax.

Nobody is stopping you from continuing to buy online if you like that better. You just can't circumvent paying tax anymore and now the local shops are on a more level playing field with online places that had a 10% built-in discount by not having to charge sales tax before.

Bet you a lot more “free shipping” by online vendors.

Can’t a state choose not to tax? Thus making itself attractive to the amazons of the world? In essence become a hub for many vendors and companies? It would have to be a state that is HURTING like a West Virginia, but????

I honestly don’t understand how this is “wrong”.

Why shouldn’t they have to incur sales taxes just like brick and mortar stores?

Why shouldn’t Airbnb be treated as a hotel room?

Govts don’t run on good intentions.

ETA: selling something used on eBay should be different IMO. The owner already paid taxes once. They are most likely taking a loss.

The consumer pays the tax, where the business is located is pretty irrelevant.
