The older I get the more tolerance I have for people, but that is mainly due to learning not to let things raise my blood pressure. I still notice all the little (and big) things people do that used to annoy me, now I just laugh at it on the inside. Plus, as I have gotten older I have more free time and pay people to do things I used to do myself so worrying about lost seconds etc just isn't a big deal anymore.

I feel the opposite. I always say thank you but don’t care much if someone is preoccupied and doesn’t. The reverse would be far ruder (meaning if I just let the door slam on them). So really, it actually IS expected and something we all owe each other.

I hate people. But all of them equally. I feel as though you are describing a type of person, not just people in general.
I find people in general to be too damn impressed with themselves and always trying to one up or show off how awesome they think they are. But mostly I hate people because they're selfish. It's the Me Show everywhere you go. Need to get over in traffic? frick you, I have someplace to be Need to get down the aisle in the grocery and my buggy is in the way? frick you, I need to stare at pasta. You've been waiting for this parking place for 10 minutes? I'm going to swoop in last second and take it because frick you, my errand is more important than yours. Coworker can't ever help you out but that won't stop them for asking for your help when they need it. Everywhere you turn, it's like people think their lives are the only things that matter.

Or the old frick in front of you is bumbling for change or writing a check that won't go through. He then turns and mutters some bullshite about thanks for being patient, it's a virtue. All I really want to do is shove the guy out of my way, pay for my stuff and be gone.

I agree with this. My NY friends came to visit and were surprised at how rude people are here after hearing about Southern hospitality. I told them that really just translates to passive aggressiveness. People are not polite here. Or at least not what I find t be polite.

Southern Hospitality might be a real thing, but it definitely isn't in South Louisiana.
