Decent documentary now on Netflix.

Didn’t know how lucky they were to catch McVeigh due to judicial delay in a small town courtroom.

Watched this yesterday. I was born in the 90s so I’ve heard of the bombing but never knew the details. McVeigh getting pulled over right after the bombing for a traffic stop just randomly was WILD and lucky.

A guy I went through AIT with is the nephew of Terry Nichols. He said the whole family believed he was innocent but he mentioned his uncle being a bit weird.

I had to go to OKC for a court proceeding after the bombing. At that time, all the streets around the bombing site were closed but you could walk down some of them. I walked around, it was very odd being downtown walking around with no one else around.

Didn't he say it was revenge for ruby ridge or Waco or something? Or was that something else?

When this loon farts, he immediately is thinking of how it could be framed as a conspiracy and how the government is involved.

iirc, yes, he wrote out a huge manifesto making himself out to be a martyr for truth, justice, and the 'murcan way, in reality I believe he was butthurt because he got a shot at Ranger school and washed out pretty quickly, it's been awhile though

I was living in Carrollton TX and was at a theater with my two kids (2 and 4 years old then) watching Toy Story. It was all over the news when we got out. Felt fortunate and terrible at the same time hearing of all those young children. Really hit home. Horrible event.

This isn't accurate. If anything, they'd make him out to be a Trumpy kind of guy.

If I remember correctly it was in response to Ruby Ridge and Waco. Government agents deserved to be tried for treason and executed over those two incidents, but you can't take it into your own hands and kill kids

No they wouldn't, because he was a white man. He would, however, be portrayed as MAGA and Trump would be blamed.

I’ll never forget any of this. I lived in The Village, about 10 miles from the bombing. Had to be at work at 11:00 or so. Heard a loud rumble, then a massive gust of wind went ‘whoosh’ over the house. The rumble was so loud I thought a semi ran down the street at high speed. Then I thought hell no, that hard gust of wind must mean a plane crashed. Ran outside, nothing there. Turned on the TV; nothing reported. After about 30 minutes I’d blown it off, but they came on with breaking news: an explosion just north of downtown.

The news helicopter was showing the still-standing side of the building but clearly something major had happened. I still hadn’t put 2 & 2 together. After it rounded the corner to the other side and the building was 3/4 gone, anything past that moment was surreal. Eventually I realized the rumble and the whoosh was the sound of the blast and the shock wave.

Without posting a novel, I have several stories of friends who were within 1/2 mile of the blast when it occurred.

I don’t like the anniversary remembrances of it, it feels like glorifying a tragedy and bringing up bad feelings.

There’s a reason he picked April 19th. That’s when the feds murdered women and kids at Waco.

I remember like it was yesterday. I was in fifth grade in a suburb west of OKC and me and a few others lifted our heads up while taking a test and heard a boom from a distance.

That's crazy. I was in 9th grade and I don't remember much about it, which is weird because I remember the whole Waco situation in 1993. I mean, I remember it in terms of it happening but I guess I was concerned with things people in the 9th grade concern themselves with that it just wasn't important to me at the time, but to be near and hearing the explosion is something I guess you never forget.

IIRC he had applied for SFAS either before or during being deployed for Desert Storm and was sent immediately after he got back without (he believed) being given time to physically prepare.

His manifesto mentions Bin Laden before most Americans had heard of him.

I worked at the Capitol in Austin and we were watching the news reports on the TV
at some point during the day I went down to the Underground parking below the capital extension and there were tons of Rangers in DPS with bomb sniffing dogs

and I realized that I was in an office that could be on top of a bomb but they didn't let us go home early cause we're not pussies
