I've been trying to not binge drink on the weekends. I'm a 1-3 beer a night guy on week nights, but I have a tendency to blow it out on either Friday or Saturday.

It's a hard habit to get out of when you've been doing it for some long.

Getting out of the weeknight drinking habit altogether is a major plus. I'll have a glass or two on occasion on a weeknight with a client or team, but it's pretty key for me to stay focused and productive during the week.

I don't impose limits on myself for football games or golf trips or whatever. Limits are for losers. Regular weekends are hit or miss - getting rowdy while having dinner with buddies is not frowned upon in my household, but the days of 14 hour all day drinking affairs just sitting on the couch or in a bar watching football are done. My body can't really do that any longer. One problem is that there ain't shite else to do when you live in a cold part of the country during the winter.

527 “binge” drinks a year isn’t much. That’s 10 beers one night a week or two nights of 5 beers each.

Humans were not created to live the lifestyle that most Americans live. Escaping reality is highly desirable, even if only for a few hours.

Americans are modest drinkers compared to many developed countries. We are pretty far down the list.

Had the same thought. And 527 drinks a year? shite, I’m way ahead of that. Maybe I should cut back a little. Dang

Seeing the horror stories of how alcoholism has ruined people and the catastrophic effect it had on their personal and professional lives, frick all that.

That feeling when you're part of the master race that doesn't drink and my liver has no idea what alcohol is.

5? LoL

That is the problem. Most people dont like others to know how bad their problems are. I bet there are plenty of people kicking back more than 5. I know I do when I drink, dont drink often though anymore.

A lot of lawyers and accountants in that number. My now-retired mentor couldn't stay away from the hotel bars on business trips. We'd get back to the hotel from a dinner (where he downed several drinks) at midnight and beeline straight to the bar. I don't know how he made it to morning meetings or flights.

Meh. I'd smoke crack if they sold it at Rite-Aid.

(Rite-Aid is what they call Katz & Besthoff now, Tom.)

I'll drink 3-6 beers or a half bottle of wine/2 mixed drinks just about every night. I know it's not good but I am what I am.

I was talking about the complexity of things and the general speed of the American lifestyle, not our drinking lifestyle.

A half bottle of wine is only about 2.5 glasses
