I used to live in Collierville (AKA Fedex East). Even out there, a plane would pass every minute for a couple of hours at night. It was not so close where you'd hear it from inside, but I would often go out on my deck in the back yard and just watch the FedEx planes line up.

It's much more impressive from Southaven or mid town Memphis near the Liberty Bowl area.

I guarantee Fed Ex and it's overnight flights is not brought up by realtors to potential home buyers in the Memphis flight pattern area.

Looks like they could really use a west coast hub.

I'm thinking the savings just in jet fuel would be astronomical.

That was an awesome video. Do they do for all FedEx planes worldwide I wonder? Seems it may have helped in finding Chuck Noland and saving the poor dude four years of his life.

He also wouldn't have lost Kelly.

The people who live in the flight pattern are not the type who are using realtors

It's interesting that if you FedEx a package to your next door neighbor it still must go through Memphis.

It's ATL, ORD, DFW, DEN based on take offs and landings.

Like a previous poster said, ATL gets crushed because of Deltas business practices. ATL also gets totally screwed at any hiccup by Delta.

At night, Memphis is the busiest airport in the world.

All major logistics companies are based/headquartered in or near Tennessee (i.e. Memphis/West Memphis, AR to Paducah, KY) because that location will reach roughly 80% of the US population in a day, by road, river or air. There's just not that many people west of Dallas, in terms of population density, to make a west coast hub practical.

Air transport back to a Tennessee base is much cheaper than reproducing a permanent air base for a relatively small customer base on the west coast.

That's interesting, and I'm sure they have run the models thousands of times. I just cant fathom the enormous fuel costs of such a thing.

The timing and logistics is just mind boggling.

And DFW has nothing on Atlanta and Chicago.

True. I've read this in a number of places.

FedEx's supply chain juggling act is just astonishing. They run planes to all corners of the globe from Memphis every day. It's always interesting to see what they are using in their fleet. I think the extended range 777 really changed things for them.
