GEEZ, argue much?
You can't exit from the inside lane of a traffic circle, plus they're much larger with more conflict points. So, it's not the same at all.

Or they could have just made traffic stop for 30 seconds so a couple of trucks could get out and go directly to i12.
I'm the idiot.
Damn that's all it takes? You should call the traffic engineers and let them know that they're wasting money, all they had to do was make traffic stop for 30 seconds.

Those roundabouts work better right now, half done, than it worked before. I think they are awesome.

I haven't seen this particular roundabout, but generally roundabouts are built with a mountable curb around the median for 18 wheelers.
Yep it is called a truck ramp. Roundabouts are awesome because when the power goes off after a hurricane intersections do not become 4 way stops for 3 months after the storm. Plus they can handle more vehicles than a traditional intersection. There are very few things that Europe does better than the USA, but roundabouts are one of those things.

All they really needed to do was put a traffic light at the truck stops and sync the i12 & club deluxe lights so that the rigs could get back to the interstate without much of a problem - instead they chose this and virtually nobody knows how to drive them, and they didn't make 'em wide enough for an 18 wheeler to stay in one lane while taking the tight turns.
Smooth move, exlax.
Roundabouts are designed so that an 18 wheeler can ride up on the inner edge and vehicles are not suppose to be close to other vehicles in a roundabout because you have to change lanes to exit. So accidents are not because of the design, but because dumbarses can't drive.
Roundabouts for dummies (aka Louisiana drivers)

Because this happens every few weeks. Roundabouts are fine until you're the one using it properly, and you're crashed into by the one who doesn't understand how they work.

I guarantee the outer lane will not continue straight.

When I found out it was a double lane roundabout I knew we were screwed. My fellow Hammond Americans still can't figure out the single lane one on Airport Rd..

Dude I live on a caribbean island where they do not enforce the drivers license laws, everything from mule drawn wagons, bicycles, cars, to 18 wheelers use them, and drunk driving is legal and they work fine. If you get in a wreck because somebody doesn't know how to use a roundabout 99.8% of the time you are the one at fault and not somebody else.

That Hammond exit needs feeder roads like in Houston. Because Houston is awesome and better than anything in Louisiana.

Dumb. Their populace cannot handle the simplistic rules of the roundabout. I hate it more than the previous big rig clogging 51 situation. Who thought this would be a good idea?
Its not just locals. I haven't many people that know how to drive around or through a roundabout. Its pretty simple. You can't change lanes inside the roundabout, if you follow that you will be fine. I watch a car with Georgia plates in front of me last week come to the roundabout and instead of just going around it to turn around. They instead came to it and made a Uturn before entering it.
piccolo is in the Hammond area, who knew

Graduated form SLU in '90, Hammond is a completely different city from what I remember, for the better...
Hell, I didn't even recognize the campus this year when I had to bring my niece her fridge to school...
Side note, did ya'll know the first New Orleans Original Daiquiris was in Hammond...?

As a resident of Hammond, America, I upvote this post.
Putting the one in at Club Delux was a great idea, as was making the trucks take the roundabout instead of backing up trying to turn into the truck stops.
But putting the other two has to be the stupidest idea in the world. You thought traffic backed up there before. Just wait til that opens.

To be fair, the Alex traffic circle/ roundabout is huge. The one in Hammond is the same size as one in River Ranch.
It's just too small for 18 wheelers to navigate with out crushing the retarded Hammond drivers.
