Should they consider making 2-10 a toll bridge instead of I-10? Concern is with the increase in traffic over the 2-10 bridge due to trucks avoiding the toll.

That thing is fugly. If I’m paying a toll at least make it look cool.

I agree- is that really the best they can do?

They can’t. Tolls on federal interstates are prohibited. Excepted where they are not prohibited. Which is in some places. But not all places. Though most places. Especially places that it has been requested to be permitted.

This is a great summary.

As I understand it, the rule is that generally states cannot add tolls to existing federally-funded travel lanes on the interstate. But there are exceptions/exemptions. In the case of bridges/tunnels, states can use tolls to fund new projects provided the tolls are removed once the debt is paid off.

I believe most of the major tollways (particularly along the east coast) that are 100% tolled were “grandfathered” because they were turnpikes that had already been funded by tolls when they were absorbed into the interstate highway system. Basically this allowed federal funds to be used elsewhere when the interstate highway system was created.

I do question the wisdom of adding 100% tolling to a major freight corridor like I-10. It seems like there could be a lot of potential for unintended consequences. However, Lake Charles needs a new bridge one way or another. If that’s what it takes to get it funded, so be it.

So is the current I10 bridge staying or is it gonna get torn down after the new bridge is built.

I think the plan is to just put a big net under it to catch it as it falls on its own.

That's what I'm saying... 210 is going to be a fricking nightmare

I didn’t know that federal interstates could be converted into state toll roads

Then-Governor Kathleen Blanco was laughed at and trashed when she suggested this back in 2006 or so as a way to try to raise state funds to speed up needed interstate lane expansions.

I’m not saying she should have instead been praised for the idea; however, a decade and a half later, and look where we are…

i just want to know why this is being built and Baton Rouge is going to continue to just be the same. i will gladly pay nearly any reasonable price to be able to reliably get through Red Stick without huge backups.

This is all dumb.

2-10 should be the toll. Leave it LA politics to try to place a toll on a major highway.

Second, the bridge doesn't need to be tall, no commercial boat traffic goes up that far any longer.

We are being ripped off again. A toll for an overpass on an interstate ?

Sloth should host a telethon to pay for this overpass.
He could get Destroya to sing some songs and model swim wear.

Could also sell some catfish or spaghetti plates at the KC hall.

I know nothing of how these things work - is the federal government responsible for maintaining interstates? and does that include bridges?
