Next week, several people will almost certainly die racing motorcycles on an island that is absolutely not suited for operating motorcycles. Especially not on narrow mountain roads. In the rain. And the fog. And high winds. And a public course.
If there was a race in the US, and there was a death, they would stop the race. They would send everyone away. They would have trials, committees, and meetings to determine what happened. Then they would ban it.
On this island they scrape up the unfortunate soul, haul his bike off, have a moment of silence, and restart the race.

Traveling to see The Isle of Man TT is on my bucket list. It has to be a hell of an experience.
I just left yesterday for Dublin. Monday one lap was run before it was called for rain. Contrary to what have commented they don’t run in the fog or rain. Tuesday got to see a lot of good practice and Wednesday a bit before we had to get to the airport. I watched from Bray Hill which is about 1 km from the start/grandstand and the pollocks. Met a few riders Monday afternoon at Frank Machams since they were done and knocking back some pints.
A few bikes out front of The Empress where we stayed with a ferry in the background. Lot of cruise ships come in which I wasn’t aware of. The amount of bikes from all around the world is incredible.

Did a bit of laundry at the Dolly Tub before leaving for Dublin.

Met some friends at NOA Bakehouse who make great sourdough breads for some inspiration and technique.

And I’ll say this-no video can show you how fast these guys run. It is just amazing. 45 year bucket list item but not checked off. I will be back when I can stay a few more days.
Peter Hickman, Michael Dunlop, Dean Harrison, Davey Todd all among the leaders. TT Royalty.
Cab driver from Bulgaria had been to Talladega and he drove his BMW like it once he heard where we were from. Funny.
Beautiful island. Bee Gees born here. Cool place.

Laps usual speed at 119mph. Highest speeds are 180-195mph. You wreck at those speeds your body simply explodes.

That is pretty much at the top of the stupid list. You either have to be stupid, treasonous, or both.

I ride street bikes, dirt bikes , even a Supermoto in the past.
No way I’m even running that course at half that speed.
Those dudes are on a while different level.

The course is a little over 37 miles long and the lap record is 16:42.7. That’s an average speed of 136.3 mph. Can’t imagine the adrenaline rush you can get from that.

That's like saying don't mention US129, BRP, or the Skyway. Everyone knows about it already.

I would totally sign up for this if I had terminal cancer or something.

Trace would be easy it’s fairly flat and straight
Except for the last 40ish miles. Would still be fairly easy, nothing like the Tail of the Dragon (129).

You’ve got to have a whole barrel of screws loose to do that shite.

Crazy irony. The best Isle of Man rider of all time, Joey Dunlop (26 race wins) died in 2000 in Estonia riding a 125cc bike. All that experience and a rainy day on low powered bike got him.
My dads cousin was a the Chief Paramedic in Pittsburgh. When I got my motorcycle license, the first thing he asked is if I had the organ donor endorsement on my license.
