This year. It fills me with dread and piercing melancholy at all hours. I think back and wonder how I wasted all the golden days. I look ahead and see decline and the slow ruin of my empire of life. I'm really struggling with it. There is no escape from time or death, of course. But I don't know how to motivate myself to press forward, or if there is any joy ahead. There doesn't seem to be much to look forward to.

When I had my stroke 5 years ago. Luckily I've recovered pretty well but the die is cast now, I'll have another one, it's just a matter of when.

I didn’t until losing my younger brother and now my 95 year old father.
We don’t know how many days we have left. Work to make each one count.

Relative to the age of the universe and the age of the planet we live on, our lives aren't even a millisecond in time.

Humans in general have only been here for a few seconds, to put it relative to how we would understand time.

A stroke at 73 and I was put in the COVID wing of the hospital. Stayed there a month learning how to walk and stacking plastic cones.

It was hard to get back from that but I still have all my memory, sense of humor, etc but have only recovered roughly 95 % of my ability to walk and strength. In 10 days I will celebrate my 78 b d.

Everybody, the most important advice I have for you is keep your blood pressure under control. I had more important thing to do instead of going to medical appointments. And take your meds.

I mean, I've always had the thought that time here is fleeting at best having a brother that passed in our 20s. So the mortality check came early for me.

I think my Mom passing 5 years ago (I was 39), was a big one.

When the class of new hires I was included with started dying off. The are only a few of us left. Of those that have passed the average age was around 70.

Age 49. Colorectal cancerous pylop. Grateful that I caught it early and had it removed. Did not require radiation or chemo.
Avg life expectancy of around 79 years, I suddenly realized I was quite possibly in the 3rd quarter of life.
Decided to stop worrying about shite I could not control and stuff that doesn’t affect me.
Became more involved in my Catholic faith. Retired when I reached age 59 because life ain’t all about working.
Instead of worrying about dying, I focus my efforts on living. Enjoy the grandkids, stay active in the community, a lot of traveling, became a Knight of Columbus, made more friends and enjoy time with lifetime friends.
Parents lived to age 85 (mom) and 92 (dad). With continued good health I hope to live above the 79 year average.
I can’t control the day I will die but I make sure I live each day to the fullest in case my expiration date in tomorrow.

Came to a realization recently that my dad was only about 10 years older than me when he passed.

a perspective I’m not thrilled having.

Sixty Nine
All my bloodwork numbers look good but my neck and back are shot.

I also realize most people don't have any clue as to how old they are and how much time is left. They intend on being the same at 70 as they were at 60 and 50. But to believe that in getting to 80 things will be hunky dory well that is a delusion. Gotta get whatever bucket items remain to be done in early 70s. But some people will be fine into their 80s.
As a side note, take notice as to how many people die in their 70s?

Is this really a fear that you have?

I know sports are important to people but I don’t understand fearing that.

When I turned 50 (15 years ago), I realized that my proverbial roller coaster had stopped climbing the steep angle, and that it had begun to fall.

Fortunately the drop has been slow to this point, but there's no predicting tomorrow and not if, but when, it will speed up.

I hope I'm able to see my grandsons grow up, get married, and start their own families, all while being in my right mind. That decision, though, is up to The Lord in Heaven and his schedule.

I have young grandkids and I'm 70. So I am sad at the realization I will likely not see them graduate from high school, let alone college. And I certainly won't make it to a wedding.
