I am for paying people a fair wage competitive with the market place. I just do not see the metro council spending money wisely and too many non profits (CATS, COA, Library, Brec) taxing us to death. The council needs to look at all their wasteful spending, maybe put on ballot repeal of some of the non profits taxes, and move money around to pay for officers bump in pay to fair market value.

The SWB administration just screwed up on a federal grant to pay for officer’s body cameras by jumping the gun.

I am pro police and they 100% need higher starting wages to attract better applicants but I am also 100% against more property taxes in Baton Rouge. I am sick and tired of this administration looking to the MINORITY in south Baton Rouge to pay for services used by their favored constituents in the North that don’t pay a penny of taxes.

BREC has more property than the Catholic Church. It is ridiculous we have to pay at this point. They cannot turn those assets into profits?

This is a no lose for SWB and the council. They come out in support of a proposal to give a raise but have no vested interest in actually figuring out how to do it. Put it on the taxpayers. If and when it fails, they will look like they are pro police, not a penny from their committee food budget will be touched, and the front line Officers ( as well as the citizens) suffer. Slide of hand at its best.

SWB signs form for body camera grant then says we didn't do that this year. Grant specifically says money can't be used to reimburse BR for cameras already purchased, SWB says we don't know that yet.

yay BR !

I might support it if I knew it went to police salaries.

They deserve raises for having to deal with that moron in the mayor's office.

I will continue to vote NO on all taxes, new or renewals, until the CATS and COA taxes are lowered.

Convenient timing with the upcoming interviews. Looks like political theatre to me. But hey, Tarsha and the CoA got their raises.

This. I pay almost 3k a year in property taxes for my 1300 sqft house. Not worth it.

This will be a perfect storm of "no". NBR will vote no because they hate cops and SBR will vote no because they're already taxed to death.

I just did a random search for taxes on a house in Woodgate S/D.

BREC taxes were $445 a year

CAT tax was $370 a year

No way Jose to more taxes

When the COA tax was passed the C-P "saved" the 800K+ a year they were giving to the COA. Use that for the cops instead of bicycles, green ways and body cameras.

I lived in a privileged part of town apparently. You go about 3 blocks north and it drops down to $200 a year

tell that to the gas tax. Basically the best tax proposal in years. Yet it failed cause we are getting taxed to death by so much other stuff.

Think about that for a second. These people campaigned to pass an $80 million millage for the COA (that isn't even a govt organization and has zero oversight) all while knowing that BRPD is "underfunded". That shows you where the priorities of the parish are.
