Go buy today's Speed Queen models now.

Washers and dryers are about to get a whole lot more efficient

quote:

Doing laundry accounts for about 8 percent of a home's annual electricity use, a figure that does not include the energy needed to heat the water swirling through the washing machine. Beyond that financial cost, the appliances contribute mightily to the nation's carbon footprint. On Feb. 29, the Biden administration announced new washer and dryer efficiency standards that could ease those burdens.

quote:

The updated standards—first reported by Grist—will result in top-loading clothes washers that are 11 percent more energy efficient than similar current machines while using 28 percent less water. Dryers will see up to a 40 percent reduction in energy use, depending on the model. The requirements are in line with current Energy Star efficiency benchmarks, and will apply to equipment produced after March 1, 2028.

If we see a 40% reduction in energy but it takes me 60% longer to dry my clothes are we really saving energy?

This is why speed queen has become so popular.

But will these standards be challenged now that Chevron has been shot down.

Administrative agencies no longer have the kind of rules leeway.

We finally broke down and bought a Speed Queen less than a year ago. We thought, no way could a washer be worth the money. Well folks, it is worth every penny and more. Zero frills...super clean clothes...a fraction of the time as that stupid HE washer.

I bought a SQ washer and dryer about 1.5 years ago. Truly a solid purchase, and one that I expect to last me at least 20 + years.

Simple is better in terms of washing and drying.

We bought the most basic model Speed Queens a few years ago.

Our dryer has 2 knobs and a button but it's a tank. It will dry a full load of clothes in like 20 minutes.

Recent supreme court case saying ambiguous laws from Congress don't get to be a rubber stamp for the executive branch to do whatever they want. Courts can intervene and decide if a regulation is fair or appropriate. No longer will a regulation get rubber stamped "because the EPA said so".

We haven't had any problems with that. You can adjust it down though.

There is a Speed Queen store in BR now at Florida at Wooddale.

By virtue of the fact that the dryer sizes stay the same and thus you are able to dry fewer clothes per unit of time.

I also just threw out a number. I’m sure it’s way more than 60% longer.
