I think I spend about 4 minutes on average when picking up meds at the pharmacy.

Now I will say the last time I went to the cvs by my house I had a trademark nola experience where the person behind the counter looked at me like she wished I would drop dead for having the audacity to bother her at her job.

A year or 2 ago I read an article about the cutthroat nature of the pharmacy business and the demands it put on the pharmacy staff. push, push, push

You must be going to Walgreens. They are the worst. Find a better pharmacy and you will be happy to learn that they are not all the same. Local mom & pop shops are usually good

I've had to pick up a lot of prescriptions for my parents over the years and completely agree.

The smaller local pharmacies are usually great.

Chains like Walgreens or CVS can often be a huge hassle.

I’m hearing all the options to avoid Walgreens and I get it it’s just that I don’t have a recurring need (thank goodness) so I’m looking at this from a business point of view. Why is this so inefficient?

I’ve yet to read or be told any reasonable explanation

I would think the main reason for the pharmacist having to be there is the regulations for who can handle specific medications, how they need to be disposed of, inventory control (including reporting to government auditors) of narcotics, and the liability involved.

But that is just a guess.

You need to find a new pharmacy. At mine, if there are 5 people in line, I can expect to wait between 5-8 minutes. If I am the only person, I'm out under 2 minutes.

We have been using the Sam's pharmacy in Covington for several years.
They are the best!
They are so nice and know their customers by name. The same pharmacists and staff are still working there since we switched our prescriptions over to Sam's.

I would imagine most of th epharmacys time is spent working with insurance companies
this can be done remotely does not need to be location specific

Quit going to Walgreens. Supporters your local independent pharmacy.

always use small, local pharmacies. Rarely ever have to wait and excellent customer service.

Yep. It’s amazing how good the little local places are. Usually have two or three high school or college kids working the counter and I never have to wait much for pick ups and they always answer the phone when we call.

When I have had to rarely get something from Walgreens or CVS, those people working look miserable and hate their jobs. I told my wife I don’t care if she’s saving $$$, I’m not dealing with that crap at either of those places.

all of this can be automated and if done properly liability concerns will be reduced and will be predictable

I’ve yet to hear why we need a middleman pharmacy at all. What purpose does it serve that cannot be addressed in a more efficient way?

Much of it can. You still need authorized people to handle the drugs for receiving purposes. A pharmacist is also supposed to be there as a safety factor to evaluate the possibility of drug interactions and advise folks about the specifics of certain drugs. But I rarely see that happening anymore.

Also, I am not trying to suggest there isn't room for more efficiency, just pointing out what the purpose was intended to be. I only use a brick-and-mortar pharmacy when I need a prescription filled immediately, otherwise, I use an online pharmacy.

and before you say “but the pharmacists provide advice, etc…” no they don’t and even if they wanted too there’s not the opportunity to do it.

I use a Walmart neighborhood market pharmacy, and they are super helpful. Between my wife's monthly and quarterly prescriptions, multiple kids, I'm there quite often. They know me when I show up, we chit chat, they talk to my boys, and are very friendly.

Last month I went to pick up a new prescription for someone in our family, and the doctor had told us something very specific about what other over the counter medicines should not be taken while on this one. The pharmacy tech rang me up, and I was off grocery shopping. My cell phone rang and it was the pharmacy number, and when I answered it was the pharmacist on duty and she just wanted to make sure that I knew about the over the counter meds not to take with it, and she apologized for not having the chance to go over that with me before I left the counter. They could have just let me get it and not make sure I knew, but went the extra mile to make sure we didn't make any mistakes with it.

cool

could also just automate a printout and attach it to the bag. Assuming there’s no regulation that a live human be the one to staple those two things together (can’t be to careful)

Big fan of Walmart pharmacy. Efficient. Large number of techs. Love the texts saying it’s ready and then reminders if you don’t get it fairly soon. They also call you right before the expiration if you forget again. Love Walmart pharmacy.

Popeyes

This is the correct answer.

There is only one Popeyes I will visit and that's because they use female trustee labor from the parish prison. Prisoners are more efficient than people they could hire off the street.

The guys and gals that have to show you how to put your credit card in the machine and show you how to buy a carwash......then there's another guy or gal that has to direct you into the rail then tell you to put your truck in neutral

Has anybody seen the vast clearcutting that has been done to generate all the CVS receipts?
