KCS is not on board. KCS says there's no real plan. KCS says the projected costs are way off.
Proponents say it's vital and they want flood grant money from HUD to get things started and the project funded. Either that are some of that 300 million dollar surplus Edwards has to play with.

I don't see the benefits of this. It's not a high speed train so it will take as long or longer than driving.
BR isn't walkable so you'd still have to have transportation when you got here. Nola is more walkable but I'd still prefer to have my vehicle when I'm there.
Just seems like a giant waste of money. Let's fix a few roads instead.

something that would be worthwhile doing is upgrading both rail bridges across the Bonnet Carre...double track them and increase speed limit to 45MPH...

I think they are in the middle of doing this.

The passenger rail, estimated to cost $300 million in capital expenses alone

The only people that benefit from this are politicians and their cronies

Don't re-elect JBE and this boondoggle likely goes away. At least for a little while.

I'm not in favor of the rail link but KCS not being on board is predictable.
Why would they want to share the rail with passenger traffic if they don't have to?

We've been wanting to run "Excursion Steam Train" service from B.R. to N.O. for a while. Special events like Jazz Fest. Mardi Gras, LSU vs Bama,Saints Games things like that. We know there is an interest. States that have them regularly sell out months/years in advance. Would be cheaper than buses to evacuate, if coupled with regular train service. Wouldn't be a wind fall for tourism but would help according to some small studies we've done.

I just want an old fashioned loop

And of course they would have to set their schedule after the passenger schedule was determined. Makes no sense for them to want it, and it makes no sense that proponents have gone this far without them.

KCS wanted to sell the parts of the BR to N.O. line they own a few years ago. For a while it was not used much compared to the CN line.

Follow where the $500,000 from the metro council went, and you will get your answers to what this really was and why experts like KCS say it’s not feasible ,as proposed.

Anybody else remember the Mardi Gras Special that ran from BR-NO and back on Mardi Gras day ? Left BR at 7:00 a.m. and returned at 7:00 p.m., if I remember correctly. Fun times.

Gargantuan waste of dollars.

This story needs to quit popping up every month. It’s a stupid idea and will never happen

Yeah this is basically trying to run before walking. But the run is some kind of weird gimpy run. We need to make it possible to drive through or around our Capital City on a given afternoon without being stuck in gridlock or having to go an hour out of your way and need to fix our laughably shitty roads before we start talking trains and shite.
