Yeah this is basically trying to run before walking

The original idea was to gauge use before upgrading to high speed rail. A test run almost happened a few years ago using SP745 Steam Train, they were going to do a few months of testing interest. Trains in other countries is the norm. Here we like our cars. I'd use rail for things like Jazz Fest or other events that I wouldn't be doing more than going to and from events.

they want flood grant money

This is the reason. Without grant money none of this happens. With grant money your Congressman and Senator look good in front of the cameras.

The ONLY way this would work is dedicated lines, and that ain't gonna fricking happen because:

1) isn't enough right of way
2) isn't enough money
3) will not be enough passengers

Will be difficult for JBE to look in either the direction of Congress or his citizenry if he goes after the OCD 1.2 Billion for this. That’s 25% of the total we got.

With Graves, Kennedy, Cassidy and the Trump Administration in charge of how the Federal Register rules are worked up-which is what will govern how the CDBG funds will be used-I don’t see how Wilson, JBE and their ilk get this Hail Mary done.

Trying to spend the entire surplus on it would be political suicide as well.

Seems like another thing that would get destroyed in a hurricane. BR isn't a city for commuter trains.

Frick this! It’s some BRAF boondoggle giveaway crap. Put a frickin hi-speed monorail down the middle of I-10 with crossovers and parking garages with limited stations so you can get from BR to NO and everywhere in between and back fast and avoid traffic.

There’s zero reason for anyone in NOLA to go to BR unless it’s an LSU game. So you might as well just end the rail line at tiger stadium.

So a huge taxpayer expenditure for 6 days a year? Sounds legit.
