I would put money on Iran having a heavy presence there if not outright controlling them through a puppet government. They are their neighbors and Afghanistan is supposed to have trillions in precious mineral deposits. We will probably see the return of the Northern Alliance or some form of it to resist the Taliban. In other words, that shithole will return to what it was before we got there, 20 years of utter waste.

I remember like it was yesterday the daily updates on TV of how many hundreds of Americas had died that day. The evacuations from Saigon on TV. Who'd have thought in a million years we'd have normalized relations with them.
Yet, here we are in 2021, Vietnam is one of the top tourist destinations in Southeast Asia.
Had a friend in the Navy that visited there. Said it was one of the best trips ever. Delicious street food, friendly locals, pristine sandy beaches and beautiful natural scenery. Well appreciated for the hospitality and friendliness of its people, even towards Americans.
It's like the war never happened to the people.

The Taliban will take over everything shortly. The good Afghans will co exist with the extremist as they always have. If you cooperated with the US forces you will be killed. We should have never gone there and tried to nation build. Russia tried for years and they eventually left also. Place is an s hole.

American forces will come home after burning everything many will get cancer no one will GAF and bad guys will take over. But you know what I dunno who is good or bad anymore. So I don't care.

That is good to hear. I was genuinely curious. I had heard rumblings a while back about it but hadn't heard much else. Not so sure we should have been over there anyway (but what do I know) but they better help out those who helped us and not let them get killed for it.

How many Americans die from terrorism on an annual basis? Pretty sure sharks are more deadly than terrorist to US citizens before and after 9/11

While they are despicable human beings, Afghani Taliban killed Americans who invaded their country. It was 15 Saudis, a Lebanese, an Egyptian and 2 UAE nationals who killed Americans on US soil. And it was a Saudi masterminded it.

We had an intern from Vietnam. Nice, bright kid. I asked him where he was from. He said it was just a small town on the coast, and that nothing ever happened there. I asked for the name of the town. He said Da Nang.

So they hate us even more? Stop giving them motivation to hate us. Leave that ant pile the frick alone and let them destroy themselves. Don't give them an enemy to unite against. "Wrecking it and walking away" is how you flip the ones who don't hate us and make them hate us.
