You drive due East to get to the West Bank from Nola.

You have to drive through parts of Canada to get to Minnesota from...Minnesota.

American Samoa and Somoa are on different days of the week.

Alaska is the state that is located farthest North, East, and West. Hawaii is farthest South.

If you split Alaska in half, Texas suddenly becomes the third largest state.

I love that one. I used to work with a guy from Texas and he was always bragging about how big Texas is. Then a guy from Alaska put him in his place.

Pretty much how I learned it except the Texan was chatting up this cute young thing from Alaska. He didn't know this and the instant he started on about how great Texas was, she dropped that bomb on him. he tried to stammer out some reply, but she walked away mid-sentence without saying another word. The dude looked like someone just ran over his dog in front of him. It was glorious.

Huh?

Air Miles
Venice to Shreveport 348
Venice to Cancun 578

You are 60% completely incorrect.

I don't understand what that first point means, RE: "If you drive from the WNW-most point of North Carolina ... you can cover all of the following states' areas ..."

It means that if you started from there and drove 620 miles in the right direction, you would drive past the farthest point in each of those states.

Yeah that blows some minds. Some of the Aleutian islands cross the international date line

Maine being the closest state to Africa doesn't surprise me. Seems like a no brainer.

Reno, NV is farther West than Los Angeles, CA.
