The high cost of maintenance on European luxury cars is a feature, not a bug

You can demonstrate your wealth to others by not caring what it costs to change the windshield washer fluid on your Bentley.
This is a Curious Cars / Bill theory. Do you agree with this theory?

The high ownership cost keeps the poor from buying these cars, yes

I've got better things to spend my kids' inheritance on than EU car maintenance.

That and rotating tires are the only things I have to worry about on my Tesla.

Funny, I thought they were relatively inexpensive to lease... I just wouldn't buy one.
ETA - the reason I see everyone (including the poors) driving one. BWDIK, I'm poor and can't even afford one anymore.

I never paid much attention to those things, looked at them as glorified golf carts, a friend of mine got one not long ago and I've learned they have some pretty amazing features on them, still wouldn't want one for a road trip

The annual maintenance cost on the McLaren F1 I let my butler use is around 30k. Need to ship it to Woking or have their “flying spanner” tech come visit every 9-12 months.
The increase in value easily outpaces the cost though.

Yea I figured this thread would immediately turn into "the billionaires I'm friends with all drive 80's F150s and 20 year old camrys"

I got mine as a second car for a round town, and now never drive the other vehicle. I enjoy it for road trips because with FSD I can pay more attention to what's around instead of always paying attention to the road. I use the grok to quickly find out about an area, any local attractions, historic landmarks, etc. I like to camp on road trips too, so I keep the inflatable mattress in the console and can just plug it in, use the A/C all night without having to worry about carbon monoxide and I can watch Netflix/:Amazon Prime if I want to catch a movie.

Reliability is the most important feature of a vehicle. When your Audi is in the shop half the year or you’re broken down on the side of the road in your BMW, there’s nothing luxurious about that.

Not luxury cars but foreign cars, my wife and I each have 10 year old Volkswagens and they are the biggest pains in the arse. Batteries constantly needing to be replaced, eat oil, random dash lights turning on, etc. Will never own one again.

The newer BMW's with the B58 engine would surprise you with their reliability.

I leased a GLS450 several years ago as a tax write off for my business. 6,000 GVW and all that plus I wanted to drive around in a baller Mercedes for a few years.
It never even occurred to me to ask about maintenance costs. The damn oil change had to be done at the delaership and was $600 back then. The tires were $400 each super low profiles. Windshields, thanks I-110 dump trucks, were $1750 and I put three in it.
I ran that lease out and went straight to the Chevy dealership for a Tahoe. Screw expensive foreign rides.

Depends on what you enjoy.
I am fine with asics or vans. Some people want $200 for clouds or special nikes.
Luxury cars are a joy to drive. Doesn't mean lesser ones aren't capable or fine to drive. The upkeep of a civic may be too much if you can't justify affording it.

At least until they become the 2nd or 3rd owner 10 years after new. Then it will be kept washed and waxed in front of their run-down HUD housing with the mufflers supported by a coat hanger, mismatched tires, busted tail lights, and bubbling tint.
