Not sure if posted yet; Hwy. 42 open from Airline to Port Vincent. Water just off the roadway in Port Vincent.

really good article here explains the atmospheric dynamics that created and fed the storm

LINK

quote:

How does the atmosphere create such astounding waterworks over a short period of time? The answer: Combine a sopping-wet air mass, featuring record-setting humidity levels, with a peculiar type of cyclonic storm running against the grain of the mid-latitude, westerly air current. You end up with a rogue vortex operating in a near-infinite water supply, creating both hell and high water for many, many thousands of people.

The radar map/video in the article is amazing. South central Louisiana...particularly Baton Rouge just gets nailed over and over and over again by heavy storms for days. I had not seen it unfold on radar like that. Wow.

Interesting article. Weird how Alexandria and New Orleans largely ducked this one. The storms seem to just kind of evaporate over lower Ascension and up to Hammond then recirculate over the capital area in a cluster around New Roads, Baton Rouge, Denham Springs and up towards Clinton and Greensburg. Those areas along with Lafayette got nailed.

Another round of big thunderstorms will be hitting the Baton Rouge area this afternoon. Expect up to 3-4 inches in some places with 1-2 in other areas. The storms are currently over the LaPlace/Gonzales area and headed North/Northwest.

Is that a funnel cloud? Doesn't really look like one.

I'm hearing reports of the waters rising again.

Local radio in central Arkansas has been running news updates and stories since 6am about the 3.5 - 4 inches of rain that fel on the area last night and how it's making flood waters rise yet again. They've had a few segments on different shows with "experts" calling in as well, but I haven't heard anyone discussing exact locations either. Is this being overblown, or are there really places that have water rising again because of the extra rain?

At times it reminds me of a forest fire viewed from space. You see long red trails extending to the southeast as the storm continuously feeds itself. Pretty surreal.

I would need to see video but that doesn't look like a funnel cloud. Could just be the shape and the dark background playing tricks on the eye.

i wonder how bad NOLA would have flooded with the same rain - that would overwhelm the pumps..

The water is rising again because of the rain, and it can be a significant challenge for areas currently on the brink, but the "rising" water elsewhere won't come close to the levels we saw earlier this week and weekend.

Google maps showing no issues there but we just drove westbound and could see police directing traffic into one lane and a bit of a slowdown behind it. This is between Bayou Manchac and 73

Just drove from Nola to garden district on I-10 with no issues. There were a few exits closed though.
