Some people complained when Spanish Lake was drained years ago. Just think how this would have gone down if it wasn't able to act as a buffer...

How did the neighborhood make out? between highland park and Perkins, between Siegen the west boundary and Pecue the east boundary. Looks like there may be a drainage ditch running west to east through the exact center of the neighborhood parallel to bayou fountain.
specifically North of the ditch running through the middle of the neighborhood, and closer to Siegen lane....

It is, but if/when the Amite River is @ 12-14 feet, waterways that flow into it are going to fill up if they're below those levels. That is how back flooding works.
