What do you know about the two upstream gauges on Bayou Manchac - Bluff Swamp and Alligator Bayou. Are they reliable? They show 7.89' and 8.84' respectively - which I take to mean they're not responding to the backwater. I have a hard time believing the water has not made it back that way when the Little Prairie gauge is has been rising the way it has all day (up to 17' now).
Actually it is likely that those two locations have not experienced backwater flow yet. It is also likely that the Little Prairie gauge IS experiencing such backing up, and may not be flowing backwards but is being jammed up and its emptying rate is slower now.
Remember, the crest is WAY north right now.
That being said, Holy CRAP look at the Little Prarie Gauge. It has broken a record and I can imagine that Bayou Fountain/Ward Creek may back up MUCH sooner than anticipated.
The most concerning thing is that it is not showing a "cresting curve" yet.

From the looks of the links super is providing it seems like backflow in the Wards Creek and Bayou Fountain runoff areas wont be until tomorrow evening. FML. Please don't rain again.
May be sooner than that looking at the Manchac gauge at Little Prairie.

Spoke to my sister just now in BR. My brother-in-law called St. George to see if they needed help filling sandbags in the morning. They told him they don't have any sand left and don't know if or when they'll be getting more.
Of course, at this point I don't know if sandbags will be much help to anyone.

He just made it back a little while ago. Tough day. A lot of good people, somet of bad troublemakers according to him.
Just came over the scanner that the people stuck at a Neighborhood Walmart somewhere are getting hostile with the deputies there with them trying to arrange rescue.

How soon do you think? The crest is somewhere north of I-12/south of Magnolia Bridge now right?

Th
This is the Jones Creek Gauge. The crest on the Amite is WAY upstream right now... I can't say for sure but it looks to be in a danger zone.

Much kudos!
Do you think the Manchac/Amite projection will hold at 21.5 crest when the new value is released in the am? Or will it be above that?
I live near the area and curious if backflow occurs in this area if it would be better or worse for the immediate area?
It is hitting crest forecasts upstream, so I don't see why not.
It would not be good for anyone if this scenario does happen.

Haven't resided in Baton Rouge since 1980. Grew up in River Ridge and watched my parents weather Katrina. Now watching family in Baton Rouge and Zachary deal with this unbelievable event. Many in North Texas are praying for your safety and welfare.

Do you believe that Shenandoah subdivision, specifically Shenandoah Avenue and surrounding area by elementary school, are in real danger of flooding?

Buddy lives off Clover Ridge Ave, anyone know how it looks over. I know the neighborhood's streets were flooded. Just curious what it looks like now

Yes. And how soon... As soon as this gauge starts going up:
This gauge
Watch that gauge and you will have advanced warning for Bayou Fountain. Now it has flattened so it may be a nonresponsive gauge, in which case you will watch this gauge:
Gauge
If either spikes, backwater flooding is imminent for BR along Bayou Fountain.

Some decent cells starting to fire off in the gulf right now, hopefully they stay away from Baton Rouge tonight.

I live close to White Oak. Probably about five blocks. Antioch/ Monitor. White Oak is flooding. The lake is over the banks and in homes. They are without power.I felt as long as they were not flooding we were fine. It's on.
