The Future of the City Is Childless

It's kind of weird to think that no one will be "from" places like NY in a couple generations at this rate.
quote:
Since 2011, the number of babies born in New York has declined 9 percent in the five boroughs and 15 percent in Manhattan. (At this rate, Manhattan’s infant population will halve in 30 years.) In that same period, the net number of New York residents leaving the city has more than doubled. There are many reasons New York might be shrinking, but most of them come down to the same unavoidable fact: Raising a family in the city is just too hard.
quote:
In high-density cities like San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., no group is growing faster than rich college-educated whites without children, according to Census analysis by the economist Jed Kolko. By contrast, families with children older than 6 are in outright decline in these places. In the biggest picture, it turns out that America’s urban rebirth is missing a key element: births.
quote:
The counties that make up Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and Philadelphia shed a combined 2 million domestic residents from 2010 to 2018. For many years, these cities’ main source of population growth hasn’t been babies or even college graduates; it’s been immigrants.

Idiocracy was prophetic.

Pretty sad all those guys have to move to the Large Apple to find a wife. And then, they’re all barren, so they can’t have kids. Sad.

It’s the lack of new children being born that has brought down most major empires throughout history.
First the family unit becomes less important and less attractive. Then the child birth rate declines. Then the immigrant population out grows the borth rate. Culture is lost. Empire dies.

No shite.
I would never try to raise a child in a big city.

The future of the city, and country is poor people of lower intelligence who are still breeding.

The older I get the more I want to live in the country/burbs outskirts. The distance isn’t so bad when they keep building stuff everywhere. Country isn’t what it used to be.

Yep. It's ridiculous. Our system incentivizes the least capable amongst us to breed the most and the most capable to have very few children.

It's a recipe for social and financial disaster.
As we get more and more comfortable and fat and idealistic, we have fewer and fewer kids while at the same time we expand social welfare programs.

It's amazing to me that people don't understand this. You'll get responses like "good" when in reality it means total societal collapse. This won't be hundreds of years in the future either.

You should consider writing a book and going on a speaking tour. You seem to have it all figured out and have to be among the top 1% of brain power folks. Every thread I click in you are shoveling out the wisdom and patting yourself on the back.

A lot of people think it's good because they think children are bad for the environment.
Environmentalists absolutely hate humans. Never forget that. They would wipe out half of humanity for the sake of the environment.
