Well that’s welcome news. One of our children lives in Katy and he and his wife are having their first baby. I will be traveling as often as they’ll let me to go and visit.

I don’t think they ever finished the original construction on I-65 between birmingham and huntsville.

There’s always a lane closed for a significant stretch on one side or the other, but usually both. My whole life.

You are wrong. I’ve been driving through that ongoing construction since the 70’s.

And that’s why the construction never ends. More roads encourage more traffic

I truly do not understand this because Texas normally does a good and relatively quick job. But for 17 years of driving between Houston and LA, it’s been been awful

Louisiana is about to beat Texas in having it 6 lanes to Sabine River.

A friend says he knew someone who worked their entire career with the Texas Highway Department on that same project. From rookie to retiree on one site.

It's not just the first 5 miles.. they've been 6-laning from Beaumont to the state line for that long. I know this sounds made up but they're actually going to be finished in 2024. They're working on the last stretch now.

I’ve driven from houston to Baton Rouge probably 20 times a year over the last 15 years including today. I have literally never seen a worker on the stretch between the border and around highway 87.

The other stretches they are working on seem to be progressing, but the weeds that have grown in the gaps of the jersey barriers are turning into trees in that first stretch.

They just knocked out a bunch of construction at my exit on 45 South of Houston at league city and it's great. They still have some more to do but traffic is basically gone now.

They are building a bunch of stuff there so in a year it's going to be a mess again, but I'm going to enjoy it for now

Hwy 171 started its four lane construction in 1975. It was finished sometime in the early 2010, and it's only 180 miles long. It's our fault.

Could it be that the soil conditions become progressively worse as the interstate approaches the Louisiana border ?

Earl Long said many times that Louisiana had bad roads because our soil is like a 'gumbo'.

Yep, remember driving to Austin for SxSW, in the 90’s before it became a freak fest, and the construction being a complete cluster frick…

I've been driving I-10 from Houston to Baton Rouge since my freshman year in 1981 and it was an easier drive back then... most of the road was just old 4 lane interstate.

The LA government has asked Texas to slow down the migration out of state as much as possible.

Quite the nuisance old sport. My driver had to divert to the Whataburger at the Mauriceville exit
