I especially like when they take the time to write it in the ledger and balance as well. Might as well do it all at once right?
LOL - I don't write many checks anymore but when I do I still record it in the old ledger balance

It’s great when they don’t even start writing the check until the cashier is done scanning items.

Do they not trust themselves with cards or cash?
This is my MIL. She has cards but is scared to use them because she just knows that the waitress is going to write down her info and steal all her money.
She insist on paying but will pay us back after we use our card.
She doesn’t trust anyone, everybody’s out to steal her money.
Annoying

I'm only 31, so I can imagine trying to constantly stay updated with all the newest stuff gets even more annoying as you get older.
Plus, it's just plain fun to watch the self-important a-hole behind you in line huff and puff.
ETA: It's even better if you can pull off the ole switcheroo. Have your card in hand while the cashier is ringing everything up and wait until he puts all his stuff on the conveyor. Then you put your card away and pull out the old checkbook.

How anyone could find check writing any more irritating than looking at some soy boy pull out his debit card for $0.82 candy bar at a gas station.

Checks are a great option when your balance is too low for your groceries, but you know the grocer's processing time is two to four days, and you need groceries NOW.
Voilá. Check written, groceries in the trunk, followed by direct-deposit the next morning.

I work in retail and have no problem with check writers. The check-only customers are mostly over 60, some are middle aged, and a few young folks. They usually take about the same amount of time as card users.
Check writers these days are likely the types who are the best at keeping up with their money and savings. I never see people with debit cards recording anything in their checking account ledgers after paying.
Check writers also DGAF if the people behind them are the impatient types.

Have you ever heard of apps? Or the internet for that matter?

You have two types of Boomers:
1. The type like your MIL that are brainwashed to believe that everybody is out to get them and they're not smart enough to identify shady characters, so they're just scared of everyone.
2. The opposite end of the spectrum that is so gullible they believe everything they're told, no matter how ridiculous is sounds. These are the types that get rung for everything they have after being duped into buying iTunes gift cards by someone who speaks English at a kindergarden level.

They're the same fricks that drive 45mph in the left lane of I-10 and just coast through an intersection by taking their foot off the brake when the light turns green, effectively fricking everyone behind them.

Those are not Boomers. Many of those are OLDER than Boomers, folks who were born and raised during the Depression and the rationing of World War II. They are much older. They may not remember banks failing, but they remember their parents were tight and / or lost money because of failed banks.

I bet you still pay with cards instead of with your watch or phone. Scrub.
