My GF has a yappy chihuahua. Not entirely useless, but still yappy.

I watched a documentary called Dogs Decoded where they showed how wolves with a "tame" gene (which still shows up in some wolves today) approached humans who had food and the wolves began protecting their food providing humans which started a mutually beneficial & long-lasting relationship.

Fast-forward thousands of years, with additional random genetic changes and artificial breeding, and somehow this yappy midget runt called a Chihuahua is a descendant of the super-predator wolf.

Same thing with my cats. Also the dogs go batshit on each other when one comes home from the groomer.

It's amazing how when one smells different, how it's like "Who the frick are YOU?!" And it's the same with dogs as it is cats.

Does anybody else’s cat like to play fetch? I can be lying in bed and he will bring me one of his toy balls. I throw the ball and he brings it back like he was in a race. Will continue to fetch until he tires out.

I love both. Cats are Women, Dogs are Men. It's really that simple.

You can drop a cat off in the woods, and chances are it will be able to fend for itself by falling back on instincts that never really left it even through thousands of years of domesticity. The same cannot be said for, say, a Chiweenie or Labradoodle.

I have a Siamese that does this. The day I discovered this I was in shock. Had no clue cats did this. Someone told me that Siamese have this tendency.

Dogs NEED attention. Cats like it but don’t need it as much as dogs. I have two inside dachshunds that have separation disorder..... they can’t stand it when I am away from them and while I’m inside they follow me everywhere. We have a cat that has just like hung around for like three years... very persistent.... I did everything I could to get that cat away but now we end up feeding her and she is an outside pet.

On the other hand, my grandparents had a cat that lived to be about 16 and I swear to God in 16 years she only let 1-2 people even pet her. She was the meanest damn pussy I ever ran across.

My late brother-in-law once had a cat he called Psycho Teddy because it would let you pick him up, pet him and in the blink of an eye, he would try to disembowel you if he could.

Our cat had a stroke and died a little over a month ago and she lived to 11 and was damn near feral towards me most of her life. However, she would follow my wife around the house like a puppy and sleep next to, or on top of her every night.

Cats can survive without humans. Dogs can't.

Cats are killers, dogs aren't.

Dogs love without reason. Cats love you with reason.

Naturally one is smarter than the other.

I found a 4 week old kitten dodging cars where 385/240 come together in Memphis while changing a flat tire. Brought her home where we have 2 dogs. It's been 2 years so they have gotten used to the cat and will play with her some, but about every 10 days or so it's like the dogs forgot we have a cat and freak out when she comes in the room, they're like "a cat! Did you see there's a cat in here?!?"
