The thing with Depp is that it was widely known that he had drug, alcohol, and financial/spending problems before the Heard stuff heated up. I remember watching a tabloid show on Reelz I think about Johnny's idiotic spending and the drugs/alcohol years ago and it didn't really seem surprising since Johnny views himself as a Keith Richards rock star as much as a Hollywood movie star. The perception of Depp before the domestic abuse stuff was a decent guy who parties too much and spends money on crazy shite. What ruined his perception was the DV claims. If he can dismiss those claims in the public eye, which he seems to be doing so far, he'll "win" this case, even if he doesn't win the actual court decision

From an overall aspect, I can definitely tell you Depp is winning in the public eye game. The headlines have been overwhelmingly in his favor during this trial. Heard even fired her PR team. Her team is in over their head.

Things are quiet right now because the media is not going to attack someone crying and calling themselves a victim. Just like Depp’s team won’t. They are going to wait for things to calm down.

The question is, will Depp make a full recovery? I don’t know. But he will come out looking better by what he’s doing. Overall anyway.

I haven’t watched any of this trial. One of our lawyers was in court in Fairfax this week and walked by Chief Judge Azcarate’s courtroom and saw a big line outside waiting for a chance to get into the courtroom. Some people have no life!

I have an appearance in the circuit court of Fairfax coming up. I suppose I’ll stroll by Judge Azcarate’s courtroom to see how many folks are waiting outside. But we’ve had much more interesting cases than this one.

Happy that my home circuit can entertain the troops. Enjoy.

Dude, people wait in line for cheeseburgers and roller coasters

You really want to judge someone who wants to wait in line for this?

Not really. I just don’t understand it anymore than I understood people waiting in line for the Kavanaugh hearings. It’s up to them.

ETA: I didn’t mean to come across as judgmental.

Everyone has their own interests.

These people have lives. They just probably have no jobs.

The judge who tried Marv Albert in the Arlington County Circuit Court is a golf buddy of mine. He had some interesting stories but I don’t believe there were lines to get into the courtroom (I may be wrong). He said to me once that people were going to remember him for that case, when he presided over so many more important trials.

I feel better about things when the Depp trial is the lead story on the news. It makes me think everything else is ok. I know that’s false, but it gives me some faux comfort.

Both of their careers are pretty much toast after this. Disney is never going to bring Depp on for anything going forward. Heard will still get bit parts but I can’t see her doing anything as big as co-leading a superhero movie again like how she landed Mera

Im having a hard time seeing a full recovery also. Although I would say his career was on the decline anyway. He was starting to get the “overrated” label. Character actors overall are taking a hit. Method acting is being attacked. Depp was the poster child for character acting. Him and Daniel Day Lewis. I blame Jared Leto for the attack .

I really believe Depp was on the path to instant vod or limited series. Which can actually get you a lot of acclaim in today’s entertainment world if you pick the right projects. Did we really have hope for a sixth Pirates movie? I didn’t. It would have been a nice pay day for him though.

He may never get those staring roles in big studio projects again, but maybe he can get some decent gigs. Had he stayed silent or just done an interview or something, he may have ended up never acting again at all. He has an opportunity to salvage something. Even Mel Gibson is getting gigs. He gets some acclaim here and there also.

And who knows. Maybe Tim Burton will get another decent size project and fight to cast Depp

Had that same thought. His team thinks Amber hurt him.

I think she did, but that can change.

I think that’s about what they expected. Hence all of the objections. They knew what she was trying to do. This is the pulling off the bandaid part for Depp.

And if they weren’t, they now have over a week to prepare. I think it worked out pretty well for them if that’s all Heard is going to do. They better have witnesses.

This is about as close as you’re going to see right now when it comes to a negative headline against Heard:

Depp vs. Heard: Internet Spots Similarities in Amber’s Testimony and ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’

This is from ET. Pretty big media outlet. This is a win for Depp. Very minor. But minor win for Depp.

I have been seeing some pretty clear video (from Twitter and Tik Tok) of Amber Heard snorting a bump of what is likely cocaine while she is on the stand.

Any chance the judge makes her take a drug screen next week if Depp’s team brings it to her attention?

Not that her recreational drug use is any of my business, but when you appear to do it on the stand on National television, it’s fair game.

I really have a hard time believing she snorted cocaine on the stand, but honestly it would explain a lot. Her testimony changed to almost incoherent rantings in the second half.

I think all of this is true. There will be a 10% or so of the general population who assume he's guilty just because Heard accused him and she's a woman. But on the whole her case is terrible and better than half of those watching seem to be on team Depp.

The default assumption that he must be guilty of some malfeasance is unfortunate for him since she seems to have controlled and perpetuated the violence - but this is the unfortunate "best case" outcome for men who get involved with violent bipolar women.

Depp's lawyers will have to tread carefully next week. Exposing her as a liar on a lot of her testimony is useful and necessary. But she's still a beautiful woman. And if she breaks down and cries a certain number of people will take her side no matter how inauthentic and manipulative the tears are.

I fully expect her to. They will have to kill her with kindness.

Pretty damning evidence against Amber that won’t see the light of day in court. Any juror on the fence would be all hands on deck after listening to this.

I know body language stuff is controversial but from the couple of articles I read it didn't look good for Amber

quote:

The first thing I notice, which I think is extremely telling, is where Amber heard is looking vs where Johnny Depp is looking. Amber is constantly looking at the jury where Johnny didn't. Just like in public speaking, this gives an advantage to Amber as she can read the jury's reaction in real-time and adjust as needed." He added, "You can almost see her shift into a 'sad face' to try an illicit emotion from the jury." In another observation, Iuliano quipped, "When she tries to cry and create tears, she looked like Ben Stiller's character in the movie 'Tropic Thunder' when he couldn't cry. It feels forced as if Amber only knows what human emotions are through descriptions."
