Thanks and that's basically what I ended up doing. I pulled off at an intersection and waved them around me. Next time I'm going to do it much sooner.
ETA: I'm considering getting a vest that says STUDENT DRIVER on the back in high viz.

My brother who is a patent lawyer in a large firm in D.C., rides a 2002 Fatboy as often as he can.
He says that it pisses off some of the soy boys that live in his neighborhood in Reston, VA.

What’s worse a motorcycle owner, rv owner, or a boat owner would make a good thread.

No. He's a normal guy from the middle of the country who doesn't worry about what others think. The libs in NOVA are the ones that need to mind their own business and enjoy life.

They should have just reduced displacement for the young generations.

Imagine an entire town that is an HOA. Owning a Harley in Reston is probably against the bylaws.

But it can be a nice place to walk and people watch. I once watched kids ice skate for an hour in the center of town. Drinks at CLYDES.
ETA: Also found a nice cigar store and lit up, Which prompted my little walk around.

I've heard it called "Mercantilism"; and there's nothing wrong with it. Everyone does it. Everyone.

Harley Davidson Company Man YouTube
9 minute video made 2 years ago. He goes into the history of the company and why it's inevitable decline occured.
The problem is that they no longer have the appeal of attracting new customers. Old customer base isn't buying new product enough and younger customer base is attracted to Honda and other faster japanese brands.

The “bikers” we used to get in ICU had some of the most gruesome injuries you could imagine.Every time I hear about somebody killed on motorcycle I think that they were the lucky ones.Better than spending a month or 2 in ICU and then die,or go to a nursing home for the rest of their life.

I've enjoyed the Breakout bikes

Harley was dumb to increase production.
I've owned five motorcycles, although I sold my last one about ten years ago. (Only one was a Harley. I'm partial to '70s two-stroke multis.)
I think about getting another one all the time.
I look at them on craigslist and Facebook Marketplace EVERY DAY!
But I keep remembering that I sold my last one because I almost got in an accident every single time I rode. People out there suck at driving.

They made their brand synonymous with aging boomers. Aging boomers are not cool.

For me it's not so much because they're faster. I don't care about going fast. It's better aesthetics, better price, easier to learn on, cheaper maintenance and not being associated with 65 year old dentists clad in leather pretending to be badass. I just wanted a motorcycle to have fun on. I'm not making a lifestyle statement.
